Is your wife......

My wife is always complaining about how we don't hike enough and recently requested that we go fishing a lot this summer. I'm still warming her up to the idea of owning multiple knives but she's got her own Mora and her first 'safe-queen'. She would have already had a custom bush-crafty knife but the maker burned me and never delivered (Are you reading this, Drew? Where's my money?).
I'd like to get her more into the survival stuff and she's shown some interest in edible plants but I have trouble getting her interested in anything I like.

My girlfriend isn't exactly interested in anything "outdoorsy" at least as much as I am, but she does enjoy hiking. Not once has she ever made a face or questioned a knife purchase, luckily for me. Well, she doesnt get the point like we do, but at least she doesn't break my balls about it haha. She's a pretty cool chick when it comes to my hobbies. Supportive enough, anyways.

At least she enjoys going hiking with you. Give it some time and your addictions and sad excuse for a hobby will only get the 'roll your eyes' response without a verbal rhetort.....They still get mad at you when you do bowdrill in the garage no matter how used to it they should be.

Man, every time I read these threads I am reminded how lucky I am. Though she doesn't go out with me as much as she once did, Lisa has a few knives of her own, can effectively use a fire steel with multiple tinders, can whittle some nice fuzz sticks, has a collection of paracord bracelets that I made for her (colors were her requests), has studied every piece of gear in the Doug Ritter survival kit I put in her trunk, and when I get out the bowdrill in the living room she just opens a couple of windows. Maybe I really should b!#ch about her a little less :)

At least she will go Hiking with you....my wife don't care much for the whole "outdoor" thing. She will go fishing with me & the boy's sometimes but she will not camp in a tent & she thinks that all knives are the same & that I'm crazy for spending more than $25 on a knife or pack or any gear ! But I Love her !

My Beloved Bride was a big city girl from DFW who had never handled anything except kitchen cutlery when we met..She did know what fork and knife to use when they give you 10 different ones! She got a "ghillie suit" for a birthday present 1 year,(she did ask for something "frilly" :) ) Now she just rolls her eyes when I show her whatever new wonder I have found. She does'nt like fishing but she likes to be in charge of the fire..She does'nt like hunting but she'll lay there nice and quiet in the grass ("ghilled up") and read those awful harlequin novels. 17 years and well...she has'nt macheted me in my sleep yet! Why would I want to trade her in?...Then I'd have to start training another 1 and thats just too much d*mn work!

My wife dosen't completely understand this whole knife thing and preparedness thing, but she grew up on a semi-isolated farm(15 miles from town, closest neighbor about 4 miles), so she understands the idea of being somewhat self-sufficient.
She also appreciates this "hobby" comapred to the "hobbies" of some of her friends husbands. She'd rather have me near home in the woods playing survivorman with the kids than watching sports in front of the tube.
