Isn't She Lovely?

a pal of mine who lives in South Mudzoory has a serious hibernaculum :eek:in his garage and also his shop harbors untold numbers of Black Widows and Brown Recluse spiders.:D

I love the spiders but unfortunatley he is a real spider Cowboy. i will bring home a half dozen of the big girls to North Mudzoory whenever i get the chance. it is however too cold here for them to make it thru the winter.

the Brown Recluse spiders are smaller than the Black Widows so he usually feeds them to the Widows. they make quick work of them. fascinating creatures.

all good Ray.

Love spiders i dont kill them or even take them out of the house. I let them do the work and kill other annoying bugs. If there no bugs to eat the just go away looking for bugs.. Let nature do its thing.
Now you guys know what would happen next time you dont pay the bill for the knife Ray sells you... You would get a small box from Ray With instraction to open the box and look for the small knife he has in there for you. After one package like that and there would be no more problems with collections lol...
Ray let her collect all the dead spiders in one large ball. Bring that ball on our walkabout. I once found some spider web with lots of dead insects in it. Wraped it around a fishing hook. That day i had no bites what so ever nothing. As soon as i got it in the water i had a large trout in less then 15sec.. Tried it again and finished that day with three trout when nothing else worked.. I guess something about the smell or something or maybe just lucky.

Spiders give me a serious case of the heebee-jeebee's if they're free-roaming. However, they are fascinating from the other side of some thick glass. About the only spider that doesn't creep me out when uncontained is the Golden Orb Weaver. This big dude sits in the middle of a huge web absolutely still, upside down, and waits for dinner.

Man, that is freakin NASTY:eek: You my friend are sick:eek: I would have smashed that thing so fast. I then would have got out the bug spray and sprayed the entire yard and house.

You got balls as big as church bells to keep that thing alive:D

To say I hate spiders, is a huge understatement:o

Nick:)

I'm with NWA!!! I'd rather wrestle an Aligator than deal with that thing. Black Widows around my place are dispatched as quickly as humanly possible......with EXTREME prejudice! I don't know what it is. I'm not bothered by crawly bugs, flyin' bugs, snakes, or much else really, but spiders give me the nastiest heebie jeebies ever. I had a difficult time even looking at those pics.

I don't care for having "pet" spiders in my house but I do love to observe them. Really cool pictures!

You just reminded me to go feed mine :P

Wonderful pics! I never fed mine other spiders but will remember that for next time. Cool tip

I had an eggcase hatch in my old dorm room once. Little spiderlings ballooning all over the computers, room fan, bunk beds. I had to get a vacuum cleaner and take care of 'em

Geez !

what a beast.... :D

We kill at least two 'widers' every day at my workshop. No mercy cuz they wouldnt have none on you. :)

Tostig

edit - I dont trip on snakes , bugs , rodents etc but spiders give me the holy hellz bellz! Except for Daddy Long Legs which seem to be a little more elegant than other spiders.

I come across Black Widows daily and think the exact same way as you. Fascinating.
I feed them crickets, but avoid the ones that may have been introduced to some pesticide.
I swear I have seen some Black Widows the size of golf balls. Ok, maybe not THAT big.
Still, they never cease to amaze me. We have killer bee's and I hate those bastards.
Those will attack with no warning. It'll make you think twice about using your ipod when hiking.

That right there is the funniest response I've seen in a while.

I agree 100% :D:eek:

Nice catch!

I have a good cohabitation arrangement with my household spiders, provided none of them make a move on me when I'm sleeping. Thankfully, though, none of them are ridiculously poisonous. I'm not sure if I could live with a black widow - especially after reading that 'watch out - she might have millions of babies' comment.

Have fun with your new pet! If you're thinking of naming it, might I suggest 'snowflake'? :D

All the best,

- Mike

I got to tell you 'Ol Bud...Thats just flat out Freaky Scary  I hate Spiders..especially the Super Toxic ones:barf: Snakes are no problem but Spiders ...well I just can't tolerate them little suckers :thumbdn: Cool Pic's though, hope you enjoy your new friend...just don't get to friendly, could be hazardous to your health ;)

That's a fine-looking lady you got there. I've been keeping one in a plastic cage at work for quite a few months now. Great little pets imo. Clean, quiet, and they only need to eat once a week or so (if you properly spoil them).

Thanks for sharing! :D

Her name is Morgana. My wife helped me choose it. :D

I was reading about black widows and here are some interesting facts...
- Most venomous spider in North America
- Their venom is 15 times more toxic than rattlesnake but they inject very little when they bite
- Only adult females are poisonous. Males and juvenilles are harmless
- Their venom is a neurotox
- They are very pretty:D

Joe, we have GOT to meet. :D

2 oz of Coleman fuel and a match ought to do it... Where's Joezilla when you need him??? ;)

Had a wild caught tarantula in college named Ned. Not too colorful but fun to watch. Girls loved him. Couldn't find enough insects in the winter to feed him though and had to let him go in the Arizona desert. Fun to let him loose in the house now and then to see my roommates reaction.
