Issues again with the HD7?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I don't even know where to begin. I had recently picked up a HD7. And by recently I mean at the beginning of this month if that. Please let me preface by stating that I love the knives, unfortunately probably a fanboy. Never had issues whatsoever. However this thing has been nothing but an issue. The pressure required to disengage the lock bar is as hard as sin, completely ravaged my thumb. It now locks up at 90%ish. Im trying so hard to be cool about this but for the money I spent im beging to feel like a turd. I will just stop there I think. If anyone has any suggestions please feel free to offer them, positive and negative alike. Oh and just as a side note. Already contacted the company regarding an issue with the first hd7 which was replaced with this one. Not bagging on them. Good people.

tried to post pick of it along side another framelock of similar characteristics, but forgot I didn't pay the annual fee.

Send your pix to... I will post them for you! if you want ;)

It looks like there's a lot of free space between the blade and the frame near the lock on the top one...?!?!

Your pivot screw might need to be tightened, looks like stuff is loose in there.

That said it looks like a secure lockup to me.

Not so much. Its a long story but basically. I went in to the store front to see what could be done about the first one and he pulled this one out. It looks as if the blade tang and been slightly re angled or maybe buffed or something. I should have gave more attention to it before I confirmed it but I was just excited I guess. I am going out on a limb here when saying this. Due to the fact that there is chatter on the beveling amongst the completely juristic difference in the angle of the tang, I wouldn't be probably to far to say that the original was replaced with a seconds or even a prior return. I don't know just bummed. Probably gonna send it off to Nath when I get some money saved up.

Mine locks up even later than yours but has never been an issue, as does my 12. It had late lockup when I got it and it moved over pretty quickly but hasn't moved since it got to the point it is at now. It's a bit sticky but not enough to be a thumb buster. Both my HD7 and 12 get a lot of carry and use (with the 12 being one of my most carried knives) and neither have got to the point that the late lockup causes any issues. I say use it and if it ever moves so far that it has lockup issues send it back. I can post a pic tomorrow if you would like to see where mine lockup.

Sorry to hear about you situation and frustration. The lockup percentage seems ok but the sticky locks can be a headache. Here is a comparison shot of my Iron Dragon next to a large 21 Sebenza. They both are similar to yours. And as mentioned before your pivot looks loose unless it is the angle of the pic.

Hope it works out for you, your supposed to feel good after spending a significant amount of money on a new blade.

No its tight, not a thumb flicker by any means. Could just be the angle of the pic.

How do you like the Iron Dragon? Seems like a beast.

Have you tried taking it apart to make sure everything is aligned and properly put together? Not that you should have to do this, but that pic really looks like the geometry of the blade is way off. Emersons are trivial to dis/re-assemble and it might save some time and stress.

I would count on Emerson's customer service 100%. They will make it right. I have probably owned over 25 of them over the years and the very few times I have had an issue they went above and beyond. These were standard construction, not frame lock, but I am sure they will stand by their product.

Good luck and I hope you get to enjoy your 7,
Mark

Disassembled numerous times. When totally disassembled the pivot has side to side play as well as the blade stop being off slightly. Able to tell by the markings on the portion where the pin contacts with the blade. I don't know though. I suppose its just due to the geometry of the contact of the tang and lock face?
