Issues again with the HD7?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

How do you like the Iron Dragon? Seems like a beast.

Thus far it is my favorite Emerson design. Very akin to the Commander in grip ergos. Plus I love the fact that the lock bar relief is internal giving a smooth scale on the outside.

And, the smooth lock side won't destroy your pants and the G10 scale has the perfect amount of grippiness.

Have you tried taking it apart to make sure everything is aligned and properly put together? Not that you should have to do this, but that pic really looks like the geometry of the blade is way off. Emersons are trivial to dis/re-assemble and it might save some time and stress.

I would count on Emerson's customer service 100%. They will make it right. I have probably owned over 25 of them over the years and the very few times I have had an issue they went above and beyond. These were standard construction, not frame lock, but I am sure they will stand by their product.

Good luck and I hope you get to enjoy your 7,
Mark

This^^

You might also try a Sharpie on the tang face to make it easier to wear in.

Here's a pic of mine, as you can see it's pretty late. If it ever gives me problems I'll send it in but I'm not bothered by late lockup.

Had an HD7 but returned it immediately. In less than 24 hours of ownership the lock up when all the way over. Sticky as sin. Sent the knife back to EKI and ate the restocking fee. Oh well... Hopefully they will make more framelocks with the steel insert like the iron dragon.

Yeah. did that one to the first one. Id been lusting after this one since the last time they were in stock and by the time I went to pull the trigger it was too late. So I waited a few years. I guess one can speculate all day. I certainly would love to see more framelocks as I love the concept. Maybe a little more love and attention to detail put into the craftsmanship, sure, especially at the price point. Will this stop me from buying more from him? Doubt it.

thumb disk. I don't wave them. Im pretty particular about my toys

If you dont wave, why that specific knife?

Ive never understood the obsession with late lockup. Thats what a warranty is for.

Also dont understand the complaints about lock stick. Thats what titanium is for.

I understand your frustration, but speaking from my own neurosis, this sounds a bit OCD.

Maybe i missed it, but why dont you have EKI make it right? You paid good money for a name and a warranty. Get your coin's worth.

I also second taking the knife apart and goofing with it. That can profoundly affect the alignment of the components, especially in a tool with loose tolerances like an Emerson.

Good luck.

I would send it back in a heart beat, and ask them to carefully inspect the next one before they send it back to you. I am sure they would do it, its and expensive knife and the alignment looks way off, that would drive me nuts particularly on the second go round.

This.^
Emerson will cover you.
fwiw- I got my HD7 used with the lock bar hitting the G10 handle scale and I sent her in and since i got her back, no problems now.

How did the fix it? I was just bummed because as it was only 3 weeks from the factory and already this amount of lock up, I felt that the replacement of a thicker diameter pin w should be replaced maybe a year or more of use. I will probably send it in. Thanks Rolf

I like the knives based on its simplistic construction.
My obsession with late lockup is based on the idea of the life of the knife. Whether I'm correct or not is up in the air.
Lock stick is fine and probably a desirable safety measure. However, when it requires two hands to disengage for safety's sake, I find that to be an issue.
You are absolutely right, I have a tendency to be a bit of OCD from time to time.
I did pay good money for the knife. Their warranty did serve me well on the first go around. I just don't want to be that guy.
From the other members on here showing and telling me where their framelock is at without any issues soothes my woes.

Send it in to EKI. They stand behind their products and will make it right. Shipping is cheap compared to the value of the knife.

dasknife- I asked Rachael how EKI fixed my HD7 and she told me she could not tell me. I respect that. All I know is that my folder is rock-solid. Send 'er in.
You are welcome!

Trade secrets. I will be contacting them on Monday to see what about sending her in. Thanks guys, have a awesome Sunday.

EKI will go above and beyond to make it right and you satisfied.

I had similar issues. Sent it back and now I can appreciate the hd7. Great knife.

You paid restocking fee when the lockup went all the way over within 24 hours? That's considered workmanship issue and shouldn't have to pay for the fees.

I know this thread is dead, but I just wanted to say that it is fixed and that I couldn't be happier.
