It finally happened....I lost my knife

I lost an Al Mar ultra lite deer hunting the edge of a corn field. Walking through waist high brush and it was pulled out of my pocket. Found it the next spring turkey hunting hanging about 3 feet off the ground in a euonymus bush.--KV

Hey guys, let's keep it to traditional knives please. I feel bad for all lost knives but this is the Traditional forum.

I've lost a few in my time but the one I miss most is a little Camillus lobster that I used to carry when I was a suit (before retirement). It was a beautiful summer day and I decided to leave the office, grab a sandwich at the deli and go sit on a bench in the park, to commune with nature and eat my lunch. It must have slipped out of my pocket and been found quickly by someone else. I looked high and low for it. That was 20+ years ago. I doubt it'll turn up now.

im often in scrubs which have notoriously light pockets. i worry about losing a knife every time I slip something in to the scrubs pocket that I tend not to carry unless its a new set with the shirt pockets. hope it turns up!

I have many more knives than I could ever carry, so you would think if I lost one, it would be okay. No way... when I misplace an EDC, I am scouring to the ends of the earth to find it. It's usually laying right where I left it. I have been fortunate to have not "lost" a knife for many years now, guess I am due now...

Hope you find yours, Brian!

There are a couple Buck knives I had as a kid that have been lost. Who knows to where...
I lost a Queen stockman for over a year once. We were painting in preparation to sell our house and I found it up on top of the kitchen cabinets. No recollection of putting it there.
Lastly my beloved Boker Barlow slipped from my pocket this winter. I was snowmobiling to work across the lake. I had the knife in my watch pocket as i had a hole in the other and the knife worked itself out. It was my daily for more than a couple years and the delrin was really starting to develop that "pocketworn" polish. Well with a few miles of snow a couple feet deep just knew she was gone. Being summer now she swims with the fishes. I keep hoping that when I am out fishing, I catch one, take it home to eat and there is my Barlow in its belly. Wouldn't that be something!

I haven't lost a traditional knife yet. Did lose an original 1st-gen Leatherman PST that my father had given me. I don't overly miss the tool itself (I have other multi-tools) but the fact that it was a gift from my father, who I lost 18 years ago and still feel THAT loss nearly every day.

I've misplaced, I've forgotten, and I've mislaid, but I've never lost a knife....until now. I'm heartbroken. It was a clip TC Barlow in red sawcut and it was never not in my pocket. A true user, it was patina'd dark with that bright edge fresh from sharpening. I had just stropped it to razor perfection. I know the last place I had it was after I cut a wrapper off some hamburger. I positive it was thrown away. I've torn apart our kitchen trying to find it. My pockets feel empty. In fact, today I didn't even carry a knife, which is so....weird. I miss it, no other knife feels right.

I'd love to hear your stories about lost favorites. Maybe take my pain away, or maybe just share in our woes together.

You say you had just stropped your knife. Where do you keep your strop? Look there in case you put your knife with it.

I lost my Dad’s Camillus Cub Scout knife on a camping trip when I was eight years old. Dad really wasn’t mad about it, but I still feel sick every time I think about it.

I've only lost two knives in my life...well, I kind of know where they are. Sometime in 1980-81 I lost a Buck 112 off the side of a Coast Guard ship in the gulf of Alaska while working on the webbing of the drop downs which the firefighting crew manned during helicopter flight ops. The other one , a Sea Green Swayback Jack, was about 4-5 years back, it now lies in the sands of a beach on Pea Island , Outer Banks NC. That one must have slipped the bonds of my pocket while I was flying two line kites one beautiful summer day.

In my youth, a few went missing never to be seen again, but later in life I learned that they were in fact, taken by my next youngest brother, who would trade them to his friends, other favorite things went missing as well, but with four younger brothers, blame could never be established. Towards the end of his life he confessed these things to me, and told me he did it just to drive me crazy...it worked :) loosing things sux

It sure sucks losing a knife. I'm embarassed to say I lost a 66 slim in red sawcut bone. It was a gift from Will Power and my first GEC. I loved carrying it since I never had a knife so well put together and the covers were beautiful. It was last summer, I drove back to Ljubljana for some exams since I study there. I wore some shorts with pockets made to lose things - they aren't deep and quite loose. No idea where exactly I lost it, it could have fallen out when I was getting out of the car although I never heard anything falling on the ground. I still hope it slipped out of the pocket during the ride (I noticed that happen due to shifting gears, braking and such) and is somewhere in the car although I searched the interior a dozen times and a year has passed and I still haven't found it ... :(

I planted several Imperial and Colonial Barlows between age 6 and 12!

I lost my only Spyerco at the Grad school Library!

About 8 years ago I lost a RR BARLOW and a Stockman on a trip!

A few years ago, the Griptilian my wife had given me for Christmas went missing one day at work. That night, I ordered a replacement.
The next day, I found my knife, lying on the tarmac next to my bus. Christmas was coming, so I gave the replacement to my son-in-law. (Second prize. My son got first prize, a Mini-Grip.) My SIL has lost track of the knife a couple of times, but it always seems to reappear. He is full of stories about the abuse he has given it, without ill effect. He always stops short of using it to turn screws, or so he says.

I'd be concerned about where exactly you might lose it too!  ;) :D Hope it never happens my friend ;)

Ok... So, burger.. Raw, I assume.. Knife would want cleaned after that unless you like rancid meat slime in your pockets.. how and where would you have cleaned it, and where would that have been in relation to where you've looked so far?

Sigh. I did manage to lose this jack knife from Don Hansen just as the W2 blade was getting a nice patina and the bark ivory was getting buttery. A great cutter and a tragic loss. Lost in the high school wrestling room many years ago, I think.

I ISKRA Žan, sorry to hear that but I'm glad you were using it:cool: Pity I don't have another one for you....but have you tried using a really powerful torch (flashlight) and looking under the seats or down them in your car? Cars can really swallow stuff up:eek:

I lost a very nice Chambriard le compact with some very decent Stag about 5 years ago. Think it was at some hotel, it's now closed down...;)

Thanks, Will

Well somebody got a wonderful knife at least....better that than it getting cleared out with the rubbish by accident or crushed by something:eek: Perhaps in a 100 years time the place will be demolished or renovated, up come the floorboards and there it is:D Even cooler looking probably:cool:

My girlfriend bought me a Case seahorse whittler in black G10 for my birthday, on her own and I really was impressed with her selection, the day I got it I carried it with me to go watch a Patriots game at her brother's house and A.) I dropped it and gave it some bolster rash on the asphalt driveway and B.) Haven't been able to find it since that day. I hope it turns up one day, I really liked the knife and it was really thoughtful for her to pick it out. This is why we can't have nice things...

Will, I always envision some high school kid poking holes in a metal barrel with it, but maybe it did go on to greener pastures.
