So I get this NOS Atkins Criterion saw set today.

Curiously, it’s in the box and all but not nearly in as good condition as this other one I have that is unboxed and used.

Anyone want to proffer a theory?

I think forum member Double Ott has a set but I haven't seen him post in quite a while. He has an amazing collection of axes and tools and great knowledge about them.

Agreed. It looks to have been stored in a humid environment and does have surface rust. It also looks as though it never did have paint on it vs. the blue one which may have benefited from that protection.

Have you ever seen a combo of handles like that? That is first one for me.

Anybody needs a brick carrier ? I had no clue what it was; I learn something new every garage sale I attend

C crbnSteeladdict , that is a repurposed two man saw handle that really doesn't look like it would help at all.

Didn't follow me home but did show up there. Picked up 2 stubai axes from wiseman a bit ago. Really digging the little kitchen hatchet.

Thanks. I did not realize that handle was made by Simonds, too.
I wish I knew the thought process behind mounting that kind of handle on that saw. The only scenario that comes to my mind is 2 men undercutting fallen tree where the gap between tree and ground is very narrow.

We don't have a big lots here, they gave me the bag at the flea market. Scored a Collins machete from that vendor too.

They look great! My local supplier of Stubai stopped importing them about 5 years ago. I only have the right handed hewing hatchet. I wanted to add a lefty. Might have to go with a Mueller.

A few more items for the collection. I was pretty excited to find a Snow & Neally sleeper pattern. It's more like a regular small broad axe really than a sleeper. I know it's not one of the old ones but it's still pretty cool to have.

Purchased this Disston #114 from jblyttle.

And another, this makes 5 I've found in recent months, S&N 30" haft;

I've been either working or too beat to hit up yard sales. I'm hoping things will slow down enough for me to have some time to search in the wild soon! Thanks for checking my new stuff out!

YP-just my experience, while the S&N broad axe is great to collect, it never hewed logs to my satisfaction.
