Friction fit like a socket chisel:I'm interested in seeing how it attaches to the steel.
Awesome! Thanks for this! From one of my uncles with his name and 1936:

Thanks Bob! Sorry I missed thatFriction fit like a socket chisel:

The chisel above to the left of the socket wedge obviously could use a new handle.Luckily I have the old one for a pattern unlike the two on the left where I was left to my own devices.

Who made red knight axes? Collins?
I found a connie in great shape and a fairly good boy scout hatchet on the original helve. View attachment 1220784

I've already filed the mushrooming off the connie and am currently filing the bit. Have a great day all!
And btw thank you Bob and ITVD for those close ups of the poll on those wedges. It's a great innovation!

Daaaaamn!! Those are some gorgeous finds! Both are stunning in my opinion. I can't believe the amount of bit steel in the broad axe. And the Bradley! Geez man well done. Do you have any idea of the age on the latter? Here's a couple ebay gets. 11.5" edge, 7.75lb L & I J White broad. Cavernous eye. Interesting shape. Lots of steel, nice and hard. Will be a user, eventually. I'm excited to hang this and file it.
And a 4.75lb Bradley. Very excited about this one. I can't quite make out what the poll says after steel. Could it say steel "pole"? It's such a refined implement. The finishing that went into this is incredible. I will hang it, but I don't think I'll file it. This one feels like every bit of the bit should be preserved. God knows I want to, though.
