It followed me home (Part 2)

I have seen these called straight peens but it looks like a fuller to me. My wife is helpful but I think this is out of her range at 14lbs. The neighbor boy is interested though and I have planted some seeds gifting him bows and hatchets:D. Maybe in a couple years he will be up to it. I can see where the makers mark used to be in front of the eye but it is lost to time.

Yeah, I'd call that a fuller. Heavy one!

I drug home yet another 5 pound Plumb rafting axe. I can't seen to pass these up if the price is reasonable.

I love the massive hardened polls on these things. There are traces of permabond in the eye.

Thanks guys. The welcomes are much appreciated. Here is the other side. The picture is not as clear as I thought but the markings are pretty nice. I don't see many axes on C-list so it was a total suprise.

So if I have another axe to show but would like confirmation on ID an possible age, should I start a thread specific to it or can I show it here and ask for info?

You will get more replies if you start a new thread asking for help to ID the axe. Looking forward to seeing more pics.

That one is in good condition. I never pass any of them up if the price is right.

I brought home a bunch of cool stuff this past weekend from NH, ME and VT...mostly axes. But this Fisher saw maker's anvil was the coolest of my finds. It is 60lbs, but the working surface is 5x8". If I ever get around to forging a knife, this may be a better tool than even my 150lb Hay Budden. The top isn't as long, but it is much wider. And more portable.

Sweet! I love those styles of anvils, something about the simplicity maybe. Of course anything probably beats the hunk of railroad tie I use.

The anvil stamp says FISHER
edited to add, oops I didn't know it had already been identified.

Despite being told what the stamp says I can't read it to save my life. Pretty lousy advertising when no one can make out your hieroglyphics.

The anvil I have not identified yet. It is somewhere north of 150lbs and a large ball bearing shows %80-90 rebound height all over the top and it has the most beautiful ring. I love the block too. $250 for the whole deal.
I paid $72 for everything else including some very nice -80F boots. I'm a size 13 and the boots are 12.5, but I tried them on anyway and they are perfect.

I wish I lived closer. I'd come over and buy that anvil today.

It's so hard to judge weight by a photograph. But to me it looks more in the 100-125 pound range. If it's 150 and you got it $250 in that condition then that was an all-out bank robbery. At 100 pounds it would still be a very good score.

My Hay Budden is a confirmed 148lbs. This one is .75" shorter, same dimensions on the deck, horn looks the same and the waist is a little bit thicker on this one. And it just feels it. 150 seems to be that cutoff where I can still carry it around but picking it up in the first place sucks.

I wish that I could sell it to you, I'd even discount it. It's the shipping on this stuff, I haven't even looked into the logistics. I normally just use Priority and this is a freight only piece. I don't even know who to call to get a quote. I'm keeping the block though ;). I was going to try a stump but this is better.

Edit- the bathroom scale says 150.2lbs.

I went out again and spent another $52. I'm burnt out for today.

Included is a nice Plumb rafting axe, the beveled on is stamped Power Kraft, the half hatchets include a Flint Edge, a Germantown (the red one) and a Craftsman.

took me a few to see it also.

look at the relief, instead of the raised parts. if it had a raised box around it, it would be VERY visible. but without an outer raised section, the letters dont stand out right.

i agree though, a terrible design for a logo on something that will corrode.

Thank you! All of a sudden I see it loud and clear but this way of presenting a logo is something that should be in a shrink's office instead of the usual Rorschach ink smears.
