Start with a Vic SAK that has a saw, many different models to choose from. Corrosion resistance is at the top and utility is off the charts indoors and outdoors.

Even without sharpening touch up, you can spend weeks doing various outdoorsman tasks with sub $80 folders that have less edge retention than D2, S30V, etc. With gear to touch up and sharpen as necessary Victorinox X55, Cold Steel and Ontario AUS8, and even Chinese "440 stainless" can usually manage.

Edge retention is focused on most because very little actual improvements are made in knives each year...it's the easiest thing to create seperation and distinction. Oddly enough it's the easiest thing to influence at home or in the field with a minute or two touch up on a stick or stone. A lot harder to touch up ergonomics, thicken liners, thin crappy blade geometry, etc.

custom order mini grip in D2, you can order it on Benchmade's website. just go to customize a griptilian and you can deck it out

For a tank, look at the ZT 300 series. They're big, heavy, and can take a beating.

For a traditional, perhaps a Sodbuster. Classic and proven working-knife design. Case ones are probably the most popular. The ones by Queen come in D2 steel.

For a simple/lightweight, perhaps a Kershaw Leek or Skyline, Spyderco Delica, or Benchmade Mini-Griptilian. After trying a variety of blades, those four are what I've settled on for my main EDC rotation.

A good multi-tool could be useful as well. Maybe something like a Leatherman Wave or Charge or a Victorinox SwissTool.

I have absolutely no idea what you are asking about.

Are you asking for knife suggestions for a knife? For a series of knives? What series of knives? What do the "etc"'s mean?!?!

I know spelling, punctuation, and such are low priority for you....but maybe you could throw together some words that allow us to help you.

By the way...the reason you can't "find a folding knife perfect for my trekk just by asking people"...this is why. We can't understand you!

:D

Well...that's what you get for trying to help.

But I'll continue to try....

1 tank folder.
1 traditional.
1 lightweight/barebones
Etc
Etc
No less than d2 steel I would think.
No more than 4 inch blade.
Serations/part serations is probably best too.
Etc

What does that mean??? You are looking for a tank, a traditional, and a lightweight knives? Again, what are the "etc"s? What does it mean to be "no less than D2"? D3? More stainless than D2? What? What? What?

Help us help you!

Traditional knife: Great Eastern Cutlery Trapper Pattern (Northfield) brand. The Current blade forums traditional knife would be a very good choice too.

Tank Folder: I like the Northfield Sunfish (also GEC) if you like traditional knives. It is a handful but a great knife! Another tank folder is the SOG Vulcan. I like the mini-vulcan better, but I have both. Toss in a Vic swiss army knife for around town use or hiking.

I like Bob Dozier's "Personal Knife" which has about a 2.5" blade, usually in D2 or CM 154. Keep an eye on his website and he will have left overs for sale and they sell fast. But he has a lot of different fixed blades that are great knives. I have the K-42 among others.

Hard to go wrong with Spyderco folders. I especially like the Delica.

As far as a traditional knife goes, it's hard to beat something by Case, like a nice stockman. That Swayback Jack of theirs is very nice.

Though, I really don't know if their CV is less than D2?

Vic SAKs are great too, again, the D2 thing though...

This is how I feel.

In the op's position I would probably go for a small simple folder, like a swiss army. I should compliment it with a good small fixed blade, like am izula or bk11. That combo should be enough for anything you will need to do.

Ummmm....?

Pohl One by Eickhorn. Used one in afghan tour. Lasted through the whole thing, overall good quality folder. Pohl Force folders would pretty much be the same thing.

If you want a knife "thatll optimise my knowledge of use of folders in general in the field" I'd suggest Vic Classic.

Knowledge doesn't come from equipment...it comes from practice and thinking. Use only the Classic on your trek. It will demand that you develop your mind and skill. After that you will be able to use any knife. Putting a knife in your hands doesn't magically give you skills.

Like if you really want to learn about camping skills, you cant do it in your living room while calling out for pizzas, you know? Can't train for a 5K by running 100 yards everyday. You gotta run farther than 5K.

I dont have cerebral palsy.

Your trying too hard, I got you out on your first post lol.

There are so many choices. From my experience, I think partial serrations are a waste of a good piece of a blade. I have the fully serrated Spyderco Endura (a bit less than 4" blade) for those times I need a fully serrated blade. You can also get SAKs (swiss army knives) with one of the blades serrated which can be useful, but I still prefer the main blade plain.

Vic SAKs certainly aren't D2, but their price makes them extremely usedful everyday knives. I carry one all the time.
