It`s Been A While.....

Put any thought into the wood for it yet Mqqn? Woods always the hardest choice for me, it comes right after what knife and when.

Hi Mack -

Oh yea - I remember your cutlass - I guess you have great taste!

But wait - did you have JK make a larger version of my Galley-Wag? Your cutlass was left handed and that one has the handle on the right!

Are you copying my design?????

Great minds think alike you know.:D

I like the blade on the left personally, being right handed and all.
I wonder if John could make an ambidextrous Galley Wag,no sense limiting it to just right handers eh.

I would choose a different handle material than Ebony though, too plain:thumbdn:,how about Snakewood?
Sure would look great IMO & would match that other knife in snakewood you have.
Grats on a great design Andy, can't wait to see the finished Galley Wag.

Yea - I thought about snakewood - and even maple burl - but with only two pins I think that ebony is the only choice for the Galley-wag.

I hear you - ebony is so plain, but I am hoping that John will use his considerable skills to make the knife a beauty despite the limitations of my original design and material designations - I have absolute faith in the man and his methods.

JK can make magic out of anything, even our lowly preferences :p, I'm sure your going to be just pleased as punch when it arrives, I always like arrival day the best :D

I think there will be a lot of happiness on the "laying on of hands" day. For sure!

Hopefully you will have a large catch of fish to test it on that day.:D

I promise you sir that a fish will be caught on that day.

I believe that Mr. K and his lovely bride were taking the day off today - it has been around 100 degrees here the last two days -

I think he will be doing more work on the Galley Wag tomorrow.

I also have an LRK+ that is is doing - I took a bunch of Amendoin wood from Paraguay to him (left over from our kitchen remodel) - so I have asked him to make scales in that material - I will have a knife to match my floor!

Well just don't drop it or you might lose it.

I feel for the rest of the country backing in the heat,we've been blessed with some cool weather up here so far.
It is supposed to get hot next week(high 70s) so maybe summer is finally going to make an appearance.

You know the saying....stay cool fool...

We've been over 100 for days now and it looks like it ain't going to change anytime soon either, damn, I'm a cold weather guy by nature, heck I come from a place that's mostly rain for heavens sake.

Anyway, Mqqn, I seem to remember you having a cutlass and while I was backing in the heat today and with everybody mentioning protourists design (for some reason?) I got to thinking about going fishing with your new design and the cutlass for company, damn that would be a nice day, do you have a cutlass? You should do this when it arrives, please for all of us sweltering in the heat. We need those kinda pictures. :p

Good point! I am having John do mine in heat treat scale with the amendoin, which will fairly well replicate my wife's decorating scheme of oil rubbed bronze and the Amendoin wood.

We are staying plenty cool - I maintain my ac - On Wednesday Maggie called me at work and told me the outside unit was not ever shutting off - so I came home and removed the covers and worked the contact unit open and shut - fixed it and avoided enough expense for a service call and parts that I can pay for a new knife!! I let the wife know this as well. ;^)

I do have a Cutlass - I am still having a little trouble seeing all the similarities to my new design - but no question, protourists design for the Cutlass is one of my all time favorites - I have a snakewood version on my counter proudly displayed in a wood block. It is a beauty and I highly recommend one to any fan of JK's - it truly would be a great knife to skin out a bear or moose - it is just a great all around design.

I have pics of that one here :

I ordered mine with thinner stock than Mack's original design - as I use mine in the kitchen almost exclusively and I prefer a thinner blade. Note again that mine is indeed a right-handed blade unit with the handle clearly on the right side -

My new , original design will be good for filleting fish (I hope) and also be a go to knife for all around kitchen duty. I had the idea that a thinner blade with a nice sweeping spine and a wonderful angle to the handle would make it a joy to use.

I am looking forward to more pictures of the knife in the next couple of days.

I`ll be heat treating tomorrow, along with the others for this week. I`ve been a little slow, screwed up my wrist, and have it wrapped in an Ace bandage. You will see more progress on Monday, and hopefully it will be done Tuesday, except for the sheath.

I'm sorry,but I don't see the similarity to the Rule # 9 & I really like the R#9.(my next JK:thumbup:)

Hi Mykel -

The RN9 is a great design! I want to have John make me one - and I intended on doing that for this year, but my new original design pushed that knife out, in addition to me having to have that Snakewood Cutlass and a Snakewood ViKtim, then I had to have an LRK+ - and now I figure I'll have to have a Stubbs -

Does it ever end??

Mack is surely looking in and feeling responsible for making poor John expend a lot of belts and abrasions on those Bohemian paws.....

Heat treated this morning. The thin stock is a bit*h to keep from warping, but I managed! Andy, you are going to love this one, might even get more orders for it.

The highlight of the morning was when I noticed my Ace bandage smoldering! Always a good time at my shop, and plenty of entertainment! Now for more fun, I am going to go to Super Target. It`s sample day, and being the cheapskate that I am, that will be lunch.

haha - now I can see JK in his shop with his jeans on fire, his bandaged wrist smoldering, and him dreaming of going to Target to dine on the sample stations!

Thanks for the update Mr. K
