It stinks having to pay for sharpening now

Mr. Wysocum, You are correct about the steps. However, all but one of them are performed for free when the knife is sent in for ordinary sharpening. That's why the $20 can only really be applied to the time spend for reprofiling the tip and a little extra grinding to get out the dings. I've seen it done a million times at gun shows.

I think Spyderco had to draw a line somewhere (for ex. sharpening is free, regrinding is not), and so they came up with one price for all those small services. So to me it looks fair and simple this way.

Seems to me with what Sal and Spyderco does and produces for its end users, complaining about a $20 fee to fix a knife is extraodinarily petty. Further it's probably a good idea if it helps keep the company viable in the long run.

If the fee bothers so much why not just buy a Byrd and replace it when it needs repair? You could buy 1.1 Byrd for each repair fee.

Prices for materials go up.

Shipping charges go up.

Labor prices go up.

Taxes go up.

Import fees go up.

Overhead goes up.

People send in abused knives, and think it's warranty, that adds to the problem.
People who think they know about design and steel better than the professionals don't take any of this into account.
And BTW,the last Spydie I bought,a few months ago,had the warranty printed
on the box.
