Hello everyone!

I have had bad itch to get lately Either GEC 4 blade black micarta congress or 4" toothpick with violet bone... I know this itch will end me up buying a knife... However its completely different weather it will be Tidioute COngress (GEC613409B Black Micarta), Tidioute Toothpick (GEC128109P Plum Jigged), Tidioute Furtaker Trapper ( GEC538210 Tractor Green) or Tidioute Jack ( GEC734209 Blue Denim acrylic)...

The wierdpart is that I have worse itch for Congress or Toothpick. I usually get 1 or 2 blade knives so I wonder why I am attracted to 4 blade congress.

Fairly certain (85%) is that it will be a GEC. Something 3.6" to 4.1"

Aye, that is so true :D

but any insight from Congress would be helpfull, since there's little information in here or internet usually about Congress pattern.

Jani,

I don't own a GEC congress but I have a couple from Case and one from Boker.

While it's not my favorite "carry" pattern, it is my favorite pattern for whittling, especially if, like my Case and Boker examples, all four blades are different.

I am not a fan of redundant blades on Congress knives. It's a great, useful pattern.

Gec seems to make only ones with pen and sheepshoof. Getting 2 blade Congress might be wiser with a sheepshoof and penblade. getting them from the States via help of friend might be MUCH wiser (as I save 50% price) and if quality sucks its easier to mail them in the states and pass the highway robber customs...

Both, and a few extra.

Both of those patterns are really nice, I don't think you can go wrong with either.
GEC's congress pattern has the nicest blade action out of all of their patterns so far, IMHO. It would be even nicer if all of the blades were different, but it's pretty good as it is.

If you want a congress, they made two different blade configurations. Most have the standard; two sheepsfoot, and two pen blades (or two wharncliffe and two pen, the difference is very subtle). There was a short production run made with two wharncliffe, a large spear and a pen blade. These will never be made again because of the difficulty of fitting the blades.

Jani....

Joe-bob beat me to it on the Tidioute congress limited run with its different blade configuration - this would be a good way to go for choice of blades...my favorite for the pocket though if its to be a congress, check out the congress senator pattern ( 2blade) it really just disappears in the pocket..no weight and slim small size and still can be found in stag and yellow bone (NF) and acrylic in the Tidioute line.
Otherwise if it's a larger blade that you'll be needing...the Furtaker..love the #53 pattern

joe bob is on the ball as usual with gec info. he's correct about the 4 blade having one spear & i bought 2 of them simply because i got word that blade selection was'nt going to be continued. actually jani i believe you would really like the tooth. great in pocket & hand. this knife is plenty heavy duty to do any urban task.would'nt want to clean a deer with it but it would if you wanted to take the time.

Scratch the itch with a congress, and, like Blues said, what's nice about the Case is not only size (closed) but four different blade patterns.

Jani I am feeling the Half Congress. I like the blade choices and it seems like a great back up knife for something a bit larger if that's your cup. I know its on my short list along with the sway back jack, mini trapper with a warnie, a new peanut, GEC Ez Open, and one of those new small GEC Jacks. Jani I am right with you on that slope though. I am going head first though. How about you?

Stephen, I am indeed eyeing Teal Half-Congress, but... I think I'll try to get another #73 this timewithout Linerlock first. I am eying #73 scout without linerlock (I got #73 with lock already I want pure slippie too), #12 toothpick and #61 half congress from the States. With combined price of three I could get single 4 blade congress nativelly...

Scratch your itch with a two blade Queen 4" Half Congress in D2
Available in Maple now

A lovely single spring thin knife that is very easy on the pocket
The main blade is a hand full of sheepsfoot
It pinches open easily
The pen is delightfully swedged so it has a very fine strong point for real picking of wood for whittling

Jani I was looking at a #73 as well, but I was looking at the GEC made Schrades. They seem like a good deal. I am just having a tough time deciding if I want to get rid of some of my spydercos to fund new slippies.

I vote toothpick. The GEC version is very attractive and with you being in Europe it should be especially well received as it bears a pretty strong resemblance to the Laguiole.

You better have that seen about; you seem to be having a lot of itches lately. - Ed

Alright this is my treatment for Itch now that I found cheaper place to do business:
#73->#12->#61 and if I got money #53

That means Scout, Toothpick, (Half) Congress and Furtaker. I am just affraid Itch is dealth with that but I might get rash... (I am going to see some factory seconds or ones with some minor cosmetical defects as they run so much cheaper even further)

Well I am hoping that my DB Barlow comes back soon. I told the wife I was ordering something new just needed to make up my mind. Right now the Half Congress is out due to cost, I want the green banana bone, the scout is a maybe, but I am thinking that the sway back jack in CV may take the cake today. Time to hit the bay and a few of my favorite vendors to make up my mind.

Oh yeah Furtakers are great knives. I have gotten used to the pull on the clip blade. I have been carrying mine for a week now and I am diggin it again. I have decided that a large slippie, my farmer, and a mini champ is a pretty good mix. I am going to add the barlow when it comes back. It may take the large slippie place for a while. I really want to try a back pocket sheath for the larger knives.

I believe my ideal EDC mix is my farmer on a lanyard LF pocket, large slippie RR pocket in a sheath when I get one made, and something in a smaller flavor in my RF pocket. I have to have something to keep my hands busy and smaller knives seem to do a great job of that.

Jani I think your purchase sequence sounds pretty good. Good luck on the handle material and color choices. I tend to go for orange or yellow and stick to bone if it looks good. Do you have a preference on jigging? Personally I am not picky, just wondering.
