In '78, I was mostly thinking about the next gun I was going to get and thinking about hunting season. Had my first new car which I paid cash for, in grad school, and life was okay. I carried a Schrade 250T on my hikes. Never was a 110 person. Fixed blade knives did not appear for another 10 years.

In 1978, I was driving a Volkswagen Rabbit and listening to Meynard Ferguson on cassette. I've been fighting off the babes ever since.

This weekend in 78 my Dad bought me my first real pocketknife! A Colonial Ranger Stockman. I remember so well because it was the first year I could hunt and we were on our way to deer camp. Dad was not noted for his free spending so I picked the smallest knife on the card cause it was cheapest. He said if you're gonna get one get one big enough to do something with. So I got the medium stockman and felt like I just won a million dollars.

I had a 4 door orange rabbit with a pioneer tape deck blasting Bowie and the Doors with the big speakers mounted in the back. I carried a Buck 110 on the hip back then.

I was 16 and finishing my last year of high school (transfer student). For the life of me I can't remember what I had in my pockets aside from keys, definitely no knife as I had no money back then. I think I carried what little I had in a coin purse like this (or it may have been my brother's. I 'm amazed at how I got along each day with no money).:

To be young and carefree *sigh*

Buck 112 on the belt.. I bought a brand new Honda 750K so that key along with keys to a 1976 Pontiac Sunbird (bought new in 76 when I graduated from HS).. Chain wallet cause I was a BADA$$ Biker then!!! :D John

The top knife, whats the maker and model # ? Thats nice.

It was either a Hammer/Imperial, or a clone.
Mine actually had tortoise shell color scales on it.
I traded a SAK for it when I was in 5th grade; I assume now that my friend clipped it from his old man's dresser.
'Would have been worth some $$ if I hadn't lost it...

Late 80s I was rockn a flat top, air chuck converted to a pot pipe and a case medium stockman in my blue jeans. Wow

Cool idea for a thread. Wish I had pics.

Mine would have been very similar (I was a kid as well).

My pockets would have been filled with my prize possessions- A Hotwheels version of Speed Racers Mach5, a toy motorcycle I found with the hand grips/controls broke off, some cheap plastic pocket flaslightt, and a Schrade switchblade my uncle gave me (single blade, jigged black plastic handles, lanyard ring).

And at some point I also had a Micronaut. I had "The Time Traveler". I thought he was the coolest.

I posted this pic in another thread where a bunch of us were joking about EDC stuff. If you look at the upper left, I've still got a Mach 5. :p It isn't a Hotwheels version. It's one of those that you pull back and release.

My grandmother would bring me the pistols that shot the plastic yellow BB's that you had to pull apart or the Jet Disc pistols that fired the little plastic discs so I always had soft plastic BB's or discs in my pockets.

I gotta admit, I have a Mach 5 but it's a new Hotwheels from when the movie came out about 8 years or so ago. :)

I tell ya, kids today can have their smart phones. If I were a kid again, I'd rather be running around the house/yard shooting at stuff with a toy gun that fires plastic bb's, or plastic discs (my mom was always finding those everywhere), or throwing/rolling my Hotwheels across the hardwood floor :).

That probably makes me officially old, but those toys were a lot of fun. Certainly more fun than spending hours on Twitter.

1978, I was 22. Just married with the keys to my '74 Capri in my pocket, a mini deck of cards and a broken Italian Stiletto in the pocket of my Schott leather jacket.
The stiletto is long gone as is the Capri.
The cards, jacket and wife are still with me :)

Remember when these were just balsa wood sticks with a rubber band we'd play with them for hours, they'd crash and we'd rebuild em. Great Steven Stills song too

I'm with you about micronauts, especially the time traveler. I still collect them!

I was a Senior in high school that year.

I had an Old Timer Stockman, a wallet, a gold colored Timex watch, a diamond ring, (didn't by a class ring, and the diamond cost the same, so why not?) and the keys to a 1977 Pontiac Firebird Formula with a 400 T.A. motor.

Awesome pic man. I'm a big fan of grainy B&W photos. Hope you don't mind me saying it looks even better if you crop it square or into a 4x3 IMHO.
