It's 2020 and still no Cadet X

I was just thinking about the Cadet X while in bed last night.. And wondering if it will be a reality..o_O

I filled out all the forms again, hoping against hope that it would. become a reality.

Fingers crossed! Hail Mary's said!

Many of us have been asking for this for years now, so can’t believe there isn’t a “Cadet X” on the market already. Just imagine the sales! Ease of carry, excellent tool set, eventually several colors available, and classy looking to boot. Sounds like a winner to me.

I noticed that this time when I filled out the whole suggestion process that very shortly after I got an polite email thanking me for the suggestion and they would be in touch if need be. I never had that happen before! o_O

Of course it could just be a police form e letter.

Three more Hail Mary's done.

I just carry the Money Clip in addition to whatever knife I am in the mood to carry that day. It is very lightweight, has a nice nail file and nail cleaner, and an adequate pair of scissors (much larger than those of the Classic).

This should have happened already. Standard silver, red, or black would be fine with me. I’d buy these and give the as gifts.

What I've really wanted is a Bantam X, it makes even more sense.
What I don't understand is why Victorinox doesn't use their annual colored Alox release to include a test design. It will have some sales based solely on being unique in design and color, while also receiving feedback.

Random Thoughts: The Bantam is an excellent design. It is the basis for many great knives. In fact, the top tools of the Compact constitute a 91mm version of your idea.

True, I should have specified Alox and 84mm. It's just a handier size and the cork screw & hook aren't what I'm looking for.
The Compact is a bulkier generalist than what I'm looking for. Slimmed down works even better on a daily basis.

I knew that's what you meant, and I feel the same way.

What makes the "X" models special or different from the regular models. I see that being Alox is part but is that all is it just a different notation then saying Alox. Besides the Pioneer what models have been done in this variant?

I've been in the same mindset for the last week as well. I want a cadet x with the good nail file, preferably in a gold/copper/brass look. It would fit my requirements to a T. Blade, bottle opener, nail file, scissors, that would fit with my Hitch and Timber Doz-all with an Olight i5t Cu, and a copper space pen. That combo with my phone will be a well balanced edc I've dreamed of.

Hi. While I'd love to be proven wrong, I feel confident in saying that there will never be a Cadet X, at least not with the trad Vic scissors. From what I've read the 84mm scissor machine/stamper wore out and hasn't been replaced. Since then Vic has acquired Wenger. A production Cadet X with Delemont scissors is more likely. Still improbable, I feel. There's never been an 84mm alox with more than two layers and I wouldn't be surprised if it's been by design, that is to keep the knife slim.

Mods can be made using scissors from other 84mm knives like the discontinued Climber Small, or with more trouble, 91mm scissors. Maybe mods can be made using Wenger/Delemont scissors. I've never seen one though.

You can keep an eye out for a Voyageur, which is an alox Bantam with scissors. Sadly they've been long discontinued. If you're desperate you might be prepared to pay the generally high prices asked by most sellers, or you can wait until you get lucky.

On the other hand, keeping a Classic or Rambler on your keyring covers the scissors while also increasing functionality. Same goes for Cadet X hankerers. One of my favourite carries of late has been a Recruit and Rambler combo.

Scissors on a Sportsman or Tourist would be top notch.
I've been carrying a Sportsman plus a Money Clip (for the scissors). The Money Clip is very lightweight, and the scissors are about 35% larger than the abysmally miniscule ones of the Classic. I also prefer the nail file tool on the Sportsman over the small blade of the Tourist.
