It's 2020 and still no Cadet X

Scissors on a sportsman, :) a rare 80s model called the Alumnus

Wish they would still make these but Victorinox seems to have focused on the 91mm size. I will only edc a scissors based SAK and max 3 layers so it is my Super Tinker for now.

I may grab a Farmer X even though it is 4 layer but thinner because of the Alox. Also looking at a Black scaled Climber but truly an Alumnus would be the ultimate for me.

Vic actually makes a model very similar to the Alumnus: the 85mm Delemont 14. It's an updated Wenger Evo 14 (itself a successor to the Traveller) with the Vic can opener and awl replacing the older Wenger versions.

The only really significant difference between the Alumnus and 14 is that the latter keeps the Wenger scissors. They work differently to Vic scissors and their finely serrated edges divide opinions within the SAK community. To me they're just as serviceable.

There are two variants of the 14. The Evolution 14 has cellidor scales and the Evowood 14 has wood scales. Like the Wenger Evo 14, both types of scales are contoured to fit the hand. This makes the knives thicker than the Traveller and Alumnus, but also very comfortable to hold. The corkscrew in particular is less obtrusive.

I have an Evowood 14. It is a beautiful knife. Despite being thicker than the Climber, I think it carries better, is nicer to hold, and is much classier with it. I also love the extra belly on the blade. It's expensive new but second hand ones are readily available and can be had for very reasonable prices.

If you think the thickness of the 14 will bother you, you could buy an Evowood and sand the scales thinner. Or if you don't mind the Wenger can opener and awl, try a Traveller. I prefer the Vic can opener because it can also turn Phillips screws.

I appreciate the suggestion and I hate to be a scissors snob but it has to be the Victorinox scissors for me. I just really like them, they are like surgical scissors almost. Also I would have to give up the pin in the scale unless I changed them. The Evowood does look classy I will agree. I do like that the file faces away from the blade and I do like the blade on the Evo 14 like you said. Vic just needs to satisfy my demands dammit, LOL JK.

Fair enough. Just don't hold your breath waiting for Vic! :D

Something I forgot to mention. The Evowoods don't have scale tools, a real shame.

Actually, I forgot the Delemont 14 was mentioned in previous posts, so pardon me bringing it up again.
