The recent SOG posts got me to thinking about a few knives from different manufacturers that seem very, very similar.

For example, have you noticed how the Spyderco D'Allara looks like the Benchmade Mini-Griptillian?

Or how the Kershaw Wildcat Ridge looks like the Buck 110 (as does quite a few other knives)? I point it out because Kershaw by and large seems very original in its designs...

Or how about the new Boker Jetstream and the Chris Reeve Umnumzaan?

Feel free to add your own "twins."

SOG-Spyderco has nothing on these guys! :D

Hi,

Frankly, there isn't a lot that is truly new under the sun anymore. Just how many ways can you design a knife that somebody else hasn't already tried?

I think the world of unique folders is still going strong. Just look at all of the new lock designs that have debuted recently. For something really unique, check out G&G Hawk's E.T.; it's one of the most original folder designs I've ever seen.

Very true:thumbup:

True, but those examples seems few and far between to me.

I knife is a very basic tool that won't have a too great of variance in shape without getting very use specific or just plane goofy. Which makes me wonder why people get all bent out of shape when someone makes a knife that they think looks too close to their favorite knife (Seb).

The Umnum is a relatively new design.

Wenger is now owned by Victorinox but independently operated. But the Wenger Standard Issue and the Victorinox Soldier ARE the required pattern Swiss Army Knife, as specified by the Swiss Army.

The Buck 110 has been copied so much and by so many different companies I don't think it even raises an eyebrow, hardly.

A Spyderco that looks like a Benchmade that uses a Spyderco hole! I can imagine there'd be a bit of a resemblance.:D

It reminds me of the guy that said the SpyKer (Spyderco/Kershaw/Ken Onion collaboration) was just a knockoff of the Benchmade Skirmish,

failing to realize that Skirmish used features that were registered trademarks of both Spyderco and Ken Onion respectively.;)
