It's Been A Long Time Giveaway

It seems that it has been a long time since I did a giveaway, and, since I have been the winner of not one but two recent giveaways, I will send two knives on to new homes where I hope they will be appreciated.

First, the prizes:
A GEC 73 with steel liners/bolster and cocobolo scales. This is unused and unsharpened, I have sat on it long enough. For those who fear the nailbreaker springs of the 73 pattern, this is for you. Unlike every other 73 I have had, this has springs that are just right - not nailbreakers, but not weak, either.

Second, a 4-dot 1976 Case 2231 1/2 SAB that is still in decent shape. Snap is strong, just right if you ask me. Blades have seen some use but still have a lot of life left in them.

Now, for the rules. First, I can only send to US addresses. My local post office has determined that nothing sharp can be shipped to international destinations. No amount of arguing on my part can convince them of their errors. If you are outside the US and have a US address that I can use, you can enter.

Second, you have to have at least 20 posts in the traditional forum before today, and plan to put these in your carry rotation and not just flip them for money (a giveway if you decide that you don't like it is OK).

Finally, the contest itself. I am passionate about the Sierra Nevada. I have scaled many peaks in the Sierra, with the elevations of those peaks ranging from 8842' to 14,508'. To win this contest you need to have the closest guess for the elevations of my two favorite summits that I have done. The winner for my favorite summit gets first choice. Any ties go to the first poster. Only one elevation guess per person. I will not post pictures of these two summits until the end of the contest, but if you are creative you might be able to figure it out based on the pictures from those summits. I really like these two summits because they are very narrow and pointed at the top, giving a feeling of being on top of the world.

The view from my favorite summit, which is in Sequoia National Park:

The view from my second-favorite summit, which is in Kings Canyon National Park:

I will let this run until 9PM Pacific Time, Sunday February 25. And if you have pictures of your favorite wilderness spot, feel free to show it.

Sweet GAW, and great picks! Editing my post to not an entry, but I hope to be fortunate enough to make those treks some day!

Not necessarily a favorite place, but a hiking pick from a week ago of my son scaling “Moses’ Mountain” - basically a pile of debris from building one of Robert Moses’ roadways.

Cool giveaway! I'll guess Sky Blue Lake, at 11,550 feet.

I grew up five minutes from Icheetucknee State Park, a favorite river to tube down, fed by underground springs.

My guess is Mt Clark (11,522) or Mt Lyell (13,120). I always liked Mt Starr, but mainly because the canyons below the peak were just so nice and quiet.

I used to spend a lot of time out that way. 395 is still one of my favorite drives in the whole world. If all of California was like the folks out there I'd never have left.

Not an entry, but I just wanted to thank you for doing this. It is Greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the generous and interesting GAW, lambertiana!!:cool::thumbsup:
I don't know anything about either of those parks, but your photos are absolutely stunning to a life-long flatlander!:thumbsup::thumbsup:
EDITING TO A SINGLE GUESS AS PER LAMBERTIANA'S POST #22 (?):
I'll guess 12345'.
Best wishes to all the entrants! :D

ETA: This may not be a "wilderness spot", but we've vacationed in the Les Cheneaux Islands region of Lake Huron for over 25 years, so it must be a favorite spot of mine. Here's a an early morning view from the cottage we rent east down the main channel through the islands:

Lambertiana, Fantastic giveaway and I will be watching the entries and waiting to hear the winners who have either got the exact or close to the elevations.
Thank you for all that you contribute!

13,989' and 10,235' are my uneducated guesses. Thanks for a great giveaway, that I couldn't pass up. I love 73s, and have actually been looking at Case 2231 1/2 SABs lately.:thumbsup:

I'll guess 11,375.

I don't need another knife right now ( yeah i know pretty much blasphemy around here ) and have just won a nice one thats in my pocket right now, but I just can't pass up a slight chance on that beautiful old CASE.
While not usually as thin and slicy on your typical relatively narrow slipjoint blade, a sabre grind sure is attractive.

My guess is 13,748 ft. Broken Finger Peak. You said you like the thin tall ones and Broken Finger sounds like it would meet those traits ;)

Not an entry, as we share the same love for the Sierras. I’ve spent a good amount of time throughout the parks and even more studying topographic maps, but the idea behind the giveaway is one of the best I’ve seen with extremely generous prizes

The Sierras are hands down my favorite place on earth. Of all the parks Kings Canyon is my #1 with Sequoia coming in a close second. Love Yosemite, but there’s just far more solitude in areas you can only reach on foot.

Here’s a few pictures from the 290 miles I hiked Northbound through the Sierras in early July of 17.

Great GAW and thank you for your very worthy contributions.

Not an entry as I have a good number of 73s and I think somebody else needs the chance.

However it seems I'm ineligible anyway as overseas.. I have to say that somebody INSANE must be running your local P.O.:eek::D since when have all countries abroad been the same??? How come I get knives (most of my knives) from the USA? Maybe they're blunted first:D I think I even bought one from you some years back. Obviously some petty official has got in charge there and does not know anything but no :D:confused:

Good luck everybody:thumbsup:
