It's Been A Long Time Giveaway

11,111 how's that for a number. Thanks for this very Generous GAW, good luck to all the guessers:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Too bad I don't post in this forum. I bet I could guess both of them to the foot. Wouldn't really be a guess, though.

I love the Sierras and can't wait to get back. I'm guessing your favorite peak is 12,343. I think I recognize that view. Are we supposed to name the peak or just guess the elevation?

This is an older photo of my wife and myself in Yosemite, near Mount Vogelsang with the Clark Range behind us.

And here's a place a little bit closer to home, Dolly Sods Wilderness. It's a popular destination in the Midatlantic, with good reason. We don't have real mountains out here but one can go from rugged windswept plateau resembling the Canadian Shield region to full-on Appalachian river valley in about an hour's hike.

Such a great idea for a give-away! Fun! My guess will be 12,568' . Thank you for the opportunity!
(I would add a picture but I'm a bit technologically impaired, sorry.)

And the winners are...drumroll please....

I love the Sierras and can't wait to get back. I'm guessing your favorite peak is 12,343. I think I recognize that view.

My favorite summit is Sawtooth Peak, above Mineral King in Sequoia NP, elevation 12,343'. I like the fact that the winner lives on the east coast but recognized the Kaweah ridgeline in the summit view because he had researched for a Sierra hike a few years ago.

I'll guess 13,950. Very interesting GAW. Thanks for the opportunity!

My second-favorite summit is Mt Agassiz, 13,893'.

Rswanson, PM your address and your choice, either the GEC or Case. McFeeli, PM me with your address and you will get the one that Rswanson did not choose. I hope both of you get good use and enjoyment from these knives.

Now for the pictures. First, Sawtooth from the west (Mineral King):

Sawtooth from the east (from Lost Canyon, you can see it peeking above the ridge in front of it):

Sawtooth from the north (Columbine Lake, the vertical from the lake to the summit is 1400'):

Sawtooth from the ridgeline, this is the view you get just as you head up the ridge to the summit:

Finally, on the summit of Sawtooth. These two pictures show the size of the summit - each of the two pictures was taken from where the people are in the other picture, so the space in between is the entire summit:

Now for Agassiz, the northernmost summit of the Palisade Crest in Kings Canyon NP:

The summit is a knife edge that is so narrow that when I took my 360 degree view pictures I had to look down at my feet each time I turned to make sure that I wasn't stepping off the top. This is a view that shows the top of the summit ridge (the foreground):

L lambertiana - I will PM shortly but am completely up in the air on this one...I haven't handled anything from GEC in the 73/74 etc family but that Case jack is up my alley too! Thanks again for the fun and photogenically inspiring GAW!!!

M McFeeli - I'll let you have first pick. Email our gracious benefactor your choice and I'll let my prize be a surprise. :)

I've said this before about The Porch, you guys are the most generous people I've ever met on the Internet.

Thanks for giving me first choice rswanson, though I think you just did that so you didn't have to choose between them haha.

Either way I appreciate the generosity of both of you guys! I've sent lambertiana a second email.

You're absolutely right- I couldn't decide at all. And now I get the pleasure of opening a late Christmas present. Congrats to you as well!
