It's Been Asked 1000 Times But, What Flashlight?

The new Fenix LD15 looks to be like a nice single AA light. I'm carrying its predecessor, the L1T V2.0, which is still quite functional.

Fenix seems to be really popular. I am thinking of somehting in the TK series, being that it will be used for camping and offroading where it will probably take a beating. But I am waiting on the package from mark to compare different lights.

Fenix LD10 or 4Sevens Quark AA for an AA powered light or if you don't mind CR123s, my favorites are the Fenix PD30 or the Quark 123 squared. All are quality lights that are reasonably priced.

ditto! i have owned the AA and the 123. love them both. great quality flashlights for the price. plus the warranty is great. 120 months of ass covering warranty

SureFire C2 or a RA Tactical.

The former accepts Malkoffs as you suggested = awesome! 225 lumens in a package that small is pretty amazing and it's upgradable. But, it's not dual-stage and 225 is a little much for task lighting [though you could buy a less powerful Malkoff]. The C2 is a twist-on [with a momentary push button], but you can swap tail caps. Twistys do have the distinct advantage of being more reliable and they can't be switched-on inadvertently like a clicky can.

RA on the other hand is programable and you can program in 4 different levels. It takes one CR123 so it's very small and crazy powerful [170 lumens]. It's small enough to carry all the time. It's very well made/engineered and considered [by light geeks everywhere] to be one of the toughest lights in existence. Reasonably priced too.

I own both of the above so I can honestly say they're awesome.

The SureFire LX2 is another good option and highly respected - dual stage as well.

I am warming up to the twistys. I didn't realize that the clicky's could fail, I saw a youtube video of the tk11 or tk12 put through a distruction test and one of the things that failed was the clicky part. But I will not be throwing it off any parking garages or running it over with my Jeep.

I think I will want something with a twisty for the trail, and a clicky for around the house/garage. Besides, who am I kidding? It's just a matter of time before I own 4 or 5 flashlights from fenix, surefire, and 4 sevens.

Ain't that the truth!

Having a powerful flashlight in the backcountry is essential. A few weeks ago, a black bear kept wandering into my camp spot, my C2 with Malkoff was great for keeping a close eye on him. The dim glow from my campmates' headlamps was useless.

My typical set-up in the backcountry is a Petzl XP2 headlamp and the C2 with Malkoff drop-in. All bases covered.

If i am not mistaken the quark (4sevens) series is made by fenix.. great lights.. no need in paying 165-200 bucks for 200 lumens.. the cr123x2 quark is 230 lumens if my memory serves me

200 lumens for $25
I picked one of these up to have a light weight, small EDC light (normal EDC is an O-Light...I still carry that one most days, but it goes in my bag instead of my pocket....the A1 I clip on my belt and forget it's there..

Bright, strobing lights are always good for keeping dogs and other roaming animals away from you...

who's mike?

here's what ill be sending:

surefire titan
surefire e1l
surefire g2 with clicky tailcap (incan, i never upgraded to the led bulb, but you'll get the idea)
preon
nitecore extreme
nitecore d20

i cant find the intruction manuals, but i think they are all on the 4 sevens website. the nitecores have multiple levels and you'll need to read the manuals to figure them out.

i think the titan is the coolest of the bunch. variable output by simply turning the bezel.

i have a fenix and another nitecore i was planning on sending, but i've misplaced them.

I have been carrying my Fenix LD10 for 6 months now and really like it. I use it for camping, backpacking & around the house. I bought the white diffuser wand & red filter to go with it and this setup is everything I will ever need. Plenty of light from this 1 AA flashlight.

Sorry Mark :o. Classic mix up. That's what I get for second guessing myself. Can't wait to get the package MARK. You sure are a nice guy MARK. Too bad you misplaced the fenix MARK but it's all good. I misplace things all the time.
(Hopefully I typed your name enough for me to remember.)

The Surefire my Dad was issued is the incandescent G2, two of them actually. I was surprised to hear that they are not LED becuase they are so bright.

ITP's are great for the coin  as for quality they are great for the coin as well.. i have a couple ITP's myself :D (i still prefer quarks though)

Recently, I fed my addiction with a Fenix tk40 ordered from Lighthound. As a last thought, I added a 14.99 lighthound cr-1, single cr123 light with a cree q4 LED. This no frills light impressed me. Just a twist switch and only one mode, but man that thing has a nice beam for the price. I would highly recomend the cr-1 as either a first light, or as a spare for and enthusiast.

Hey I'm new to the world of high end flashlights too. You guys here seem to be quite helpfull (except maybe for Practical Use ^ :D)

....just a sugestion/request though, could you maybe include an aproximate price of the model of light when you mention them? It would save time from looking them up only to find that they are far beond ones price range.

ummm ....thanks for throwing out those web sites, but I think you missed the point. The point is that I wouldn't have to go and look up evey brand or model of light mentioned if I knew it was out of my price range to begin with.
