It's Been Asked 1000 Times But, What Flashlight?

Doesn't work on my wifes 10 pound miniature pinchers, so I'm not so sure I would depend on that as my primary defense.

You would be a fool if you depended on a flashlight as your primary defense...not sure why you are mentioning that though, as I said nothing of it.

While walking around the neighborhood in the evening with the wife and baby, I always have my O-light set to strobe and to date, it has turned away every dog that started to approach.

ITP's are great for the coin  as for quality they are great for the coin as well.. i have a couple ITP's myself :D (i still prefer quarks though)

What are the (noticeable) differences between the two? I debated for a long time before settling on the A1..

Hey I'm new to the world of high end flashlights too. You guys here seem to be quite helpfull (except maybe for Practical Use ^ :D)

....just a sugestion/request though, could you maybe include an aproximate price of the model of light when you mention them? It would save time from looking them up only to find that they are far beond ones price range.

The ones I have mentioned so far:

O-light Warrior- ~$75
iTP A1- ~$25
Surefire P6D- ~$60

Maybe I should have added a smiley face or something. Only joking, didn't mean to insult you. Either way, it sounds to me like we are in agreement on the flashlight as primary defense. However, like I stated before my wife's min pins would still work their way in to get a piece of you.

Oh yeah, smiley face..:)

Sound like some pretty serious minpins....think I'd be weary around them....:D

warranty for one, quarks are 120 months that = great quality.. 2 the quarks throw a better beam (imo) and 3 the technology in the quarks are more up to date than the ITP's... just somethings i have noticed.. dont get me wrong the ITP's are great lights. i am getting ready to buy another one to keep in my 4 wheeler. but if i had to pic 1 or 2 both would be quarks

Sorry Mark :o. Classic mix up. That's what I get for second guessing myself. Can't wait to get the package MARK. You sure are a nice guy MARK. Too bad you misplaced the fenix MARK but it's all good. I misplace things all the time.
(Hopefully I typed your name enough for me to remember.)

The Surefire my Dad was issued is the incandescent G2, two of them actually. I was surprised to hear that they are not LED becuase they are so bright.

ha ha! :D

the fenix was one of the basic models. only one setting with a twist on bezel. i think you'll have fun with the what's in the package.

This has been a very helpful thread.

I use all kinds of Surefire lights, and they work great and all, but browsing the Fenix cataloge had me pegged. $60 for 200+ lumens!?!? Waterproof rugged aluminum body?!?!? Multiple modes?!?1 $60!?1

Where have I been?

A PD20 is now on its way to replace my E1e that I bought 4 years ago; technology has come a long way since them and I had no idea. Now it seems that I can outfit every rifle and every room in the house with a good light without spending $350. Good to go.

I drank the Surefire kool-aid for a long time myself..then I discovered Fenix and Olight and a few other companies offering twice the product for half the price..

Malkoff Wildcat! 3 or 4 depending on your battery preference, same head same output. I like the 3 for its shorter length and (barely) pocketability and the 4 for18650s and guilt free lumens. Awesome light. The M60 and M61 drop ins are excellent as well.

I like single mode american made overbuilt lights(surefire and elzetta, w/malkoffs). I know they will light everytime on full output.

Just wanted to mention there is an eye hazard radiation warning included with the new high intensity LED lights. Therefore, certainly not a good 'toy' for small kids, and we should all be conscious of the potential for eye damage when using them.

I recently purchased several 'Argo' headlamps from Streamlight. They are made in China and I suspect so are a lot of other Streamlight products. I have no problem with that since Chinese products can be excellent provided the firms contracting with the Chinese hold their feet to the fire in the area of quality control. Anyway, the little Argos put out 56 lumens on high, 38 on medium, and 6 on low. Light duration is 7 hours on high, 12 on medium, and 20 on low. The low setting is plenty for most tasks and they're a great little light. At a bit more than four ounces you hardly know you have it on your head. Uses three AAAs and has a bar meter at the rear of the light to show battery condition, also a limited but pretty broad and liberal lifetime warranty. So far, I'm delighted and use mine daily.

I don't think anybody's mentioned Eagletac or Zebralight yet. Both make very nice lights.

I just got a Jetbeam RRT-0 that I'm liking so far.

kmj,

you should have received the lights by now. let us know what you think.

Yes I got them tuesday. I have been playing with them every night. I keep wanting to do a small review on them all but these little things just keep popping up. Hopefully today I will have something up.

But I will say the nitecore extreme infinity and surefire g2 (incan) are my favorites.

the g2 is a great little light. i would recommend the led upgrade bulb, and the clip is not standard. i think i got that on the gadget/gear exchange here.

and its also hard to go wrong with that little nitecore.

Well I tried to start a review. The darkest place in my house is the basement, but with the walls being blue on one side, and 2 types of wood paneling on the other (it's under construction), I can't get a good backdrop. So I am going to wait until dark and hope it won't rain to use my garage. So far I have 1 picture of the flashlights on:

From left to right: cheap Husky LED (yes it's on), stock Mini Mag Lite, Mini Mag Lite withe Nite Ize LED/clicky upgrade (I use for work), (the rest are Mark's) Surefire G2 with clicky tailcap, Nitecore PD D20, Nitecore Extreme Infinity, Surefire E1L, 4 Seven's Preon, and Surefire Titan. All of them are on their highest setting.

I just ordered an AA Maratac from countycomm.com to try out. Looks like a good way to reduce some weight on backpacking trips and still have a decent light. Plus, it's redundant in terms of the batteries for my Garmin GPS (two AA's for that unit).

These run times look pretty nice to me for a single AA.
Low Mode, 1.5lm Output for 100 Hours
Medium Mode, 18lm Output for 7 Hours
High Mode, 85lm Output for 2 Hours

Also looks like, just as with the AAA Maratac, you can flip the clip and turn it into a cap light for hands free use.

I have the AAA Maratac and like it. All my other good lights are Surefire 6P's (well, one 6Z) with some version of a Malkoff inside.

i've been called a gear queer

Saving for posterity. :p :D

I started with a Maglite Solitaire when I knew nothing about flashlights. I still don't know too much, all I know is that my Streamlight Stylus Pro is the only flashlight I will ever need. Its slim and compact, the light output is amazing, the burn time is long, and the price is awesome ($20). Pure win!
