It's been asked before & it'll be asked again-what blades do u like besides khukris?

Kitchen knives, it's what I use the most also, I don't feel so guilty about spending money on something that will surely get used quite a bit

I'm kinda like Munk on this - very use oriented. I carry/use an SAK every day, though my Sarge also sees a lot of use, as do a couple of cheap Mora knives. More use yet of carbon steel Sabatier knives in the kitchen.

I'd like to expand things to include a JKM, a Nessmuk, and a roach-bellied Trade Knife with a 4" blade or so - not too different from a couple that Sarge has shown us. Might have to make that one out of an old file, I guess.

Hollowdweller,
Left to right in that (crappy)pic is;
Arno Bernard, warthog ivory w/tapered tang.
Mike Irie Sport 500 dagger with stag
Allen Blade pac pal with maple
Jeff Hall semi hawkbill with worm grooved g-10
Theuns Prinsloo with giraffe bone w/black liners and a tapered tang.

That reminds me of what my true non-khuk favorites are, lately: my stead of NOS Old Hickory kitchen knives. I love carbon steel blades for kitchen work, and I probably handle my O.H. 3 1/2" paring and 7" slicer more than any other knife.

(plus the 7" butcher makes a mean cook/camp knife)

All of them...but, primarily older knives.

Allen Blade. I have heard a lot of good things about his blades but he has a terrible thread on him in Good Bad and Ugly right now. Too bad.

The sport 500 looks spiffy too

It really is too bad that his rep went down the toilet.
The knife is well made and was a great price. I bought it long ago when he still had a good rep.
I wouldn't buy from him now tho. Dan Koster could make the same thing at about the same price I'm sure.:D

Yeah, you wanna avoid Allen Blade like the Plague!!!! I bought some how to videos from Allen a long time back when he was making one of his famous/infamous comebacks and damned near got taken.
Threatening Allen Blade with a post on the Good, Bad, and Ugly Forum does nothing, he says, "Go ahead and post it there if you must."
I guess he's had so many on there that he's pretty immune to them. I think what finally got through to him and got my videos to me was threatening Allen Blade with USPS Fraud because he was accepting and sending goods by the US Postal Service. I've never ever looked at the damned videos after having so much trouble and spending so much time getting them. No matter how good the man is at making knives he sure doesn't seem to be much worth a damn at anything else IMO.:grumpy:
He has brought it all on himself by himself though. I wasn't aware there was another thread on him in the G, B, & U Forum but I'm sure not surprised!!!! :thumbdn: :(

Yvsa,

I only started checking out the Good Bad and Ugly section recently.

I was really kind of surprised there was as much negative feedback as there was in there.

I have always been amazed at the honesty and goodwill of almost everyone I have dealt with in knife deals on the forums.

Gotta agree with you Tsimi, the deal with Allen Blade is the only rough one I've had.:(
I went too look and the thread that's going is the same one. It started back sometime in 2005 and Allen Blade has made two or three comebacks since then.
It appears that the guys over on the British Blades Forum has now discovered that the guys here were really telling the truth about Allen Blade.
It appears that they're a much more forgiving bunch than we Americans are.
I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing.:foot:

I sympathize with the guy to a degree. If you are making good stuff at a good price I could see how that one could get overwhelmed.

On the other hand there's a lot of knifemakers that are backed up and then they say it's like a year wait and no money up front. Reeves is like that. Eight Dollar Mt. Foundry, some others. Ariel Salaverra is like that and he even wants you to see and like the knife before you send your money in.

You'd think when these guys would get so backed up they'd stop taking $$ up front. I mean if their stuff is in such great demand it would seem that there would instantly be another buyer step in should anyone who had spoken for a knife not honor their word.

its hard not to be tempted to take money up front when you've got bills sitting in front of you and nothing to pay them with. its a hard line to walk. i would say that its one that has to be walked though, becuase its real easy to let things go real bad doing that to often.
