I love Becker knives, they are definitely my favourite big knives out there- at a price you can't beat. But.... I don't like the smaller knives...... I've already chosen the Esee Izula over the Eskabar or the Necker, and now I must commit this terrible act again... and choose the Esee 4 over the Tweeners. The small Beckers just don't do it for me guys.

But back to stroking the legend of Becker. There seriously isn't a match when it comes to different styles of big knives. There isn't a chance I'd choose the Junglas (not with that price tag) over the BK9, and the Esee 5 is no more than the BK2 for the cost. I really love and appreciate the design and make of the large Becker knives. Truly astounding.

Now, you may all shame me for choosing another knife before a Becker. Has anyone else here commited Becker heresy?

eh, I would take the 16 over the 4...but I wouldn't mind having a E-3. I LOVE the 14, but now I want an Izula too, just for a slightly shorter/pointier blade.

just out of curiosity....what made your decision? Have u handled the E4 and the BK16? I had both in my hands this weekend, and while I like the E4, the bk16 had better ergos IMO

For this act of treason, you must buy one of every small BK&T knife for every BeckerHead and send it to them, from the Saber ground San Mai 11 to the Saber Ground 16, from the normal 11 to the 17, FPRs included. :D

each to their own. it's not heresy. just don't expect you know, a bucket of love :)

It's cool man. It's at least ESEE, Ka-Bar collabs a lot with them. They even created the awesome BK14. We would be offended if you said that you liked cheapo mall knives better 'cause they're cheap, but this is not total ban deserving behavior. I'm no fanboy, Beckers simply did what they advertised, and so much more. If another company does the same, they're good in my eyes.

Disregard last comment, BK14 please. It's for your repentance. It's either that, or you lose an eye. You crazy hoodlum of a person! How dare you say such things. Aargh!

Haha, just kidding about all that.

But seriously. BK14. now.

Really? I really liked the ergos of the Esee 4 better. I actually went in to a shop expecting to buy the 17, but left to get more cash for the Esee 4. I handled the two of them and compared and such. Played with their sheaths (not being able to close the second button on the BK17 sheath was a huge turn off for me) and felt their weight in my hands. I didn't quite like the tubey type shape grip for a small knife and much preferred the squarness when it came to the size of that knife. It's kinda the same reason I like the Paramilitary 2 over the Griptillian or the Adamas over the ZT 300.

The Girth of the Becker knives keep me from worrying about ever needing to send them in under warranty, but the smaller ones.... I dunno, it feels safer to go with a really good warranty on a smaller knife.

What's a warranty? I think a piece of paper that came with Helga and Becca said that on there, but after I asked what it was, I was told to just put it in the box and let it sit until my knife blew up.... Neither blew up, so yeah. Pretty pointless to have a piece of paper for a knife that never needs it.

Don't be silly. The warranty wasn't what made the decision- more of a bonus to the decision I made.

Drop point BK-14! Bigger and badder than the izula.

IMO, 1095 CV is a little better than regular 1095 and one thing about knives...You can customize and modify everything accept the steel...Alot of guys here cheat on their Becker wives with ESEEs lol.

For how much more an Izula cost than a BK-14 I can pay someone grind the point to be sharper and have enough left for lunch haha. 14 is probably my favorite Becker, it got me through a 4 day camping trip with long day hikes no problem (obviously I wasn't building shelters or anything).

I have an Esee-4 and a FPR16 and I like both for different reasons. I don't use my FPR16 but I think I may start soon and then I'll really know which is my favorite. Both awesome knives IMO though.

There is no heresy in simply choosing what you like. :)

And I do agree about the superiority of the large Beckers..;)

As to the Esee 4- Did you come to that conclusion by actually handling any of the Tweeners or just looking at pics?

I'm super impressed by the Junglas, It took 1st place in the chopping contest at beckerwest, by a guy (Mh Poole) who just got it and isn't into knives to boot. On the other hand I bought an ESEE 4 used and I hated the ergo's, I gave it to my buddy the next day, he loves it. So it's cool man. A lot of us have both brands and a load of others.

I handled them both... I just felt that even for a smaller knife like the Tweeners that the handles were too small. The taller flat handles of the Esee 4 felt much in my longish fingers, where the round shape of the tweeners didn't feel like much to hold on to.

I think that the round handle design is perfect for big knives, but when it comes to smaller knives, the flat handles win. All of my folders have flat handles and I've never considered or enjoyed holding a round handled folder. Vise versa for big knives. The Esee/Tweener size fits right in there as smaller knives to me.

I've had two ESEE-4s, still have one. Am planning on replacing it with a 16 or a 17 and would have traded it for either at the gathering (and my 4 has custom scales from T-K-C and a Godspeed custom sheath). Each of us have our own opinions on it, but I've been waiting on the 16 for what seems like a very long time, ever since I first handled the protos.

I cheated on my small Beckers when I got the Izula. It is a really nice knife and I do like that it has more of a point. I also find that it is easier to edc due to its smaller OAL and factory sheath.

No Heresy man. It's all about personnel preference and what works for you.

Funny though, I just sold my Izula II because I prefer the BK14 and the 11. (wish they had the extra Izzy II handle avail. though - had to make one of my own)
Like I said, what ever works for you.

As others have said. ESEE make a good knife too. Bunch of us have both (and others) I have a 4 - great knife, but the ergos of the 15, 16, 17 are great. JMHO.

And the BK 2, 7 and 9 can hang with stuff twice the price.

So - no worries.

But, you may have to pay a toll from now on each time you post .... J/K :D

If it fits your hand better it is a better choice for you......I do hope that whatever ailment caused your hand to feel this way is not communicable.....Lol......ESSE makes a fine blade.......Enjoy.......

All Best.....

Ethan

I own quite a few of both.

Made in USA, great blades, made by great companies, backed up completely by fantastic warranties, and I'm friends with the owners of both companies.

No heresy, just different hands like different knives. I'm a knife nut and enjoy all blades.
