  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

It's coming to this- I must commit heresy.

eh, I would take the 16 over the 4...but I wouldn't mind having a E-3. I LOVE the 14, but now I want an Izula too, just for a slightly shorter/pointier blade.

just out of curiosity....what made your decision? Have u handled the E4 and the BK16? I had both in my hands this weekend, and while I like the E4, the bk16 had better ergos IMO

I initially thought I might sell my ESEE 3 after getting the BK16, but I really don't see that happening.... still something I really like about it. I'd like to see one made sans choil but I don't mind that is has one.

As for the Izula, if you have larger hands I'd strongly recommend the Izula II instead. I like the BK14 with zytel better than the Izula with micarta, but the Izula II is far better in my hand than either.

And Doogoon, no worries about owning or talking about a non-Becker knife here. I have several ESEE's and many others do too.

If it fits your hand better it is a better choice for you......I do hope that whatever ailment caused your hand to feel this way is not communicable.....Lol......ESSE makes a fine blade.......Enjoy.......

All Best.....

Ethan

Well now I feel all guilty. T___T

I'll make up for it by getting a BK3 or 4! One of those too were next on my list anyway!

Nah, you're good. ESEE makes an excellent knife, but I'm still trying to figure out who's hand they were trying to fit those handles to. :) I've used a 6 quite a bit, but prefer my BK7 to it, because of the handle. The Candiru is the next knife on my list, though, but if Ethan would make something along those lines, I'd buy it!

I wasn't quite sure how I felt about the 6 at first, but then with the custom scales from T-K-C it becomes a whole different knife. Still too big for most of my uses but definitely much more comfortable.

Both great knives. I figure if we lived in an alternate universe with no Ethan Becker, we'd all be ESEE-heads. We would also mod them, strip them, and do things that would make regular ESEE-fans cringe.

I don't like EVERY knife Ethan came up with..just most of them, and the ones I do own are my favorite. If I had money to just throw away, I'd probably buy a few ESEEs. Heck, I beckerized (with a little help) a Steve Johnson blade that I formerly talked smack on. Now its one bad bitch. Still a Ka-Bar, still a maker within the friend circle.

Is ESEE regular 1095? Because thats where the rubber meets the road...the steel and the heat treat. But from what I've seen, they don't have any more problems than Becker.

Now, if you came in here and said "I'd rather have a Cold Steel Leatherneck made of that crap Krupp stainless that folds in half the first time you baton with it"....we'd just laugh you out.

As long as it's made in America and bad-ass, it's all good, as long as you still have some Beckers in there.

I like knives from a ton of different makers. I had an ESEE-4, but sold it. I currently own the BK-14, but bought my wife the Izula because she liked the smaller blade better. I like what I like and buy what I want to buy. And I never, ever flame someone for doing the same!

The ESEE-4 is a bad ass knife and I would have kept mine, if my wife had not purchased the BK-16 for me. A BK-16 with a stripped blade, peanut butter scales, and blaze orange liners...*boing*...now that's a knife!

It has been said that Rowen, who does their blades, has 'the best 1095 in the business'. I've read that a few times in different forums, and once I saw a vid where a guy batonned an ESEE-5 (I believe) into a BK-2 and the ESEE-5 came out on the better end (it's floating around youtube somewhere).

That said, I'm still a BH and not in the Rat Pack. I love how easy BKT's 1095CV sharpens up and stays that way, I don't need to cut through titanium alligator bones in every day use so BKT's do the job for me.

You should get a BK12 and get the Rowen HT and the Becker design :)

is it eve n weired I'm going the other way? Sold my izula and stripped a bk11 instead, traded the bk11 and now plan to by another one and maybe a 14 to, I have an esee 3 ad a bk16 on the way and have thought about selling the esee 3 to continue the trend (fyi, I've always loved the esee 3, but since handling some beckers the choil on it seems to bug me all of a sudden)

I have this weird cost/function/looks calculation my head that I couldn't write out if I tried (i guess we all do), and beckers seem to be wining and even changing it the more I go forward, what's stranger is that anything bigger the an esee3 (or bk16 I guess, not seen one in person yet, but will soon!) has always been "too much" knife for me, which seems to be where these knives live.

Um, no it didn't. TAGannon was the guy making all 3 videos. The BK2 gave up more ground in the beginning, mostly due to the thinner grind. Once we got to metal the same thickness, it was a stalemate.

Guess the video was initially misleading. I found it through the old ESEE forum and throughout the thread it seemed favorable of the E-5 so maybe that changed how the video came across. All I remember is after a few minutes of batonning he held up the BK2 and the E5 and the BK2 had big gouges in it and the 5 had noticably smaller nicks, but I'd trust you more than my own eyes when it comes to knives so if you say so, wasn't trolling or anything I'd hope you know that I am on the BKT team.

EDIT: Just so the waters don't get muddied I took a few minutes to sift through old threads and found TAGannon's thread that explains the situation- http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/814331-ESEE-vs-Becker-Cage-Match-explanation

No worries, and always trust your eyes over a fat internet mod. :D

I just wanted to make sure you got the whole story, and all three vids. Its happened before both here and elsewhere, where folks only post up part of that cruel torture vid.

Both knives are awesome blades, but one must remember, SERE instructors designed the ESEE 5 as an egress survival tool, the BK2 as a thick bladed knife. I own both and love'em.

I wouldn't dare have put up part of the video, it hurts me just to watch it! I have no problems with either company as well, I just lean more heavily towards the Becker side so just so everyone knows I wasn't really trying to sway anyone either way or start another ESEE VS. Becker war (god knows we've had enough of those).

Batonning knives into knives to prove something.......................where's that xzibit meme when you need it?

Gawd, ain't that the truth.

We need to start a Becker versus Helle debate, so I can justify buying more Helle knives. Man, those are some wicked awesome blades, handmade for nearly nothing in cost.

Or Beckers vs Fisk blades. I can officially petition for a Fisk blade.

:D

I'd love to see a Becker vs Cold Steel...just for the cheap thrill of watching one of "The worlds strongest, sharpest knives" snap in half. I am shocked he hasn't produced a BK2 rip off yet.
