Pack Rat, Thanks but no thanks. For a multitude of reasons. Preston

Ok then, I will trade you a brand new 110 black sheath for that Alaskan sheath. If you haven't beat on it too much yet.

But, let me throw out something about that Alaskan sheath. I am sitting here comparing a couple of handfulls of new 110 sheaths in brown, black and the burgundy Alaskans.

As I stand them up together, bottoms on the desk, I see the actual pocket on the Alaskan, cut a bit taller than the others. Not much, 1/8 inch or so. Seems to me it takes a 110 a little easier than some of the other new ones.

Ok,,,so yall are now grabbing up your various sheaths and looking. Stand them up side by side and look where the rivets are.

Tell me what I am seeing..

Pack Rat, again TBNT. I'll tell you why, but first I also compared the brown, black and the AG...all the black ones that I could lay my hands on are older ones, and seem the same. The newer brown one has a shorter, different style/cut of flap. This the one marked 111 on the back that some folks here are not fond of, it takes some force to get the 110 in and close the flap.

Now, as I was have a bit of dinner, thinking over some of my projects, I thought about the leather braiding that I have been going to do on a fixed blade sheath. Got out the book and spotted several styles of braiding that just might work covering up that logo and look spiffy doing it. So I do thank you...and I'll post the results as it turns out. Preston

'  Will be looking forward to pics of your leather work! Like I need another hobby.

I don't know about you but when ever I venture in the unknown, $#*& happens:mad:. This was very much the case while I tried to hid the logo on this sheath.

First, I tried to take out the image the "Trax" method(see above Trax post)...good idea but didn't work. Along with this I tried various leather tools to reduce/obscure the logo...this leather, has as stated before, has a very good finish.

Second, I planned to use a briaded/woven pattern of leather lacing to cover the logo. Not having much experience with this, add the fact that I'm one of those that read the directions as a last resort:o, the holes that I punched in the sheath were wrong and I really couldn't cover up the logo with the lace as planned.

Third, I had to use a field expedient method of covering up a big mistake:jerkit:. I tooled a small piece of leather, cut it to cover up most of the holes and use some of them for the lacing to attach it. I then tried to lace around the new pattern(pjsjr logo). I say try because the first holes were to far apart...this meant I had to remove the completed lacing, punch more holes:eek:, and relace. Okay, good so far, then, about 3/4s of the way around this time the lace was not matching up...I'd missed a hole near the beginning, you got it, out came that lacing, started over and here is the resulting "finished" sheath. I still might proceed in another direction as I'm not completely satisfied.

But it is unique:rolleyes:. Preston

Lookin' good!!! :D

Is that the Alaskan next to it??? The one with no logo??? (and the upside down "T") What's up with that??? Is this one you bought back in '04???

Or is Cabela's cleaning out their inventory??? ;)

Thanks Rat and Trax,

Yes, Trax, it's the one that I took the logo off of, got this one at the store in Sidney, Neb. just last week. I don't think that they were cleaning out their inventory...I did look at several knives to see which was the BEST!!! All were marked the same, and were $59.95. I did not ask to see everyone of the Alaskan 110s...now that I think of it all I would have had to do was look at the date on the box:rolleyes: to maybe get an Idaho one. Oh well, it's not like I won't be going back there:D. Preston
