They are nocturnal thus the big eyes & the reason I'd never seen one before.

the flying squirrel is just about everywhere ,, south and north,,,but as you say most never get to see them. I live in the woods and have a squirrel feeder in the yard,,,some nights there can be a half dozen at it fighting over the food,,,a light blinds them and you can walk right up to them then.

Within a week of Evan being diagnosed with leukemia friends of ours had an artist do this drawing for Evan. He is the tiny Avenger in the front. They made them into bumper stickers and shirts Etc. Very cool to go to the store and see people wearing a shirt with your little boy on it! We thought the play on words was cool going from Avengers to Evangers.

You can tell it's not hunting season yet as they're not skittish.
