It's not much...

well the petina is a chemical change in the steel, you cant really remove it unless you grind off metal , so yeah that sucks that they polished them up , I do like a petina, my bura siru is beautiful because of its petina, hmm i guess i can see both ways , but would never try ot make it gleam even if I polish ( old blade)

It looks like the the way the locals tightened up their Kaskara hilts was to stuff some leather or fabric in the thing. There's already some yarn stuffed in there, so I'll just stuff a little more in.

in the 40's and 50's museums would polish the hell out of their swords and armor to make them look like they did back in the day, and now everybody's upset they "ruined" them.

That's funny. Thanks for sharing.

To follow on Gehazi's point. I fall back. We are not (at least him and I) in financial positions to own valuable historic pieces. So at the end, we can do whatever pleases us with our toys. Nobody will riot or protest in front of our houses for altering parts of the world's history.

That's true, but you'd hate to destroy the resale value or ruin the thing for the next generation. They might not be historic pieces now but who knows in 500 years or so.

I'm tempted to stuff something weird in the handle just to confuse the next guy who takes it apart...

LoL like a cell phone simcard.

Or maybe some fake 800 year old Mayan artifact. It'd be funny to see them try to explain how that got there.

aaaggggh everything I ordered is lost in the mail, my kora was supposed to be here on the 22nd, the kachin dha was supposed to be today aaggggggghhhh

Ugh, hate it when that happens. Or when you've been tracking a package and it's almost to your house, but then they don't update the status for three or four days. Fortunately everything's showed up eventually.

yeah thats it exactly, no trackign for days , but its been lurking right outside !

yeah and it says its in the town where usually i get it within hours after update

Same thing happens to me all the time, especially if it's overseas. It always shows up in 3-4 days though.

I know the feeling, I hope something shows up in 3 or 4 days. I haven't ordered anything but I'm hoping something shows up anyhow. Always a much better day when something shows up.

I think I'm gonna lay out my collection of Auntie Triangle boxes and take a picture. Maybe build a rack for them too. I've grown to love triangle boxes very very much.

yeah I think if we all got together we could build a priority two day box castle-- dha is here will post pictures this afternoon!

its definitely not a european blade, maybe a really well forged kachin one , though im unsure of the steel, it could just be well cared for for age but seems almost too shiney , is overall good blade, though I dont think scabbard was originally meant for this blade as it kinda outsides it , look forward to perhaps having a new scabbard made

grips of my dha, the new one has the bone in the middle , the one on the end in black is my naga dao/dha

the group all together

this is the spine of the fullered dha, its pretty much like my HI tarwar, the only true fighting dha I think i have

Sweet! I can see the happy on ya from my house, well actually I'm at work but I can see it from here too.

lol I already have a couple on the way . my only regret is buying some tourist crap from the 70s on ebay -- but by the end of it I will have a respectable collection to back up my HI version and help me understand the best dimensions for my HI,

curious blue did europeans ever sell blade blanks , not sure why the fighting dha is not hairpin laminated or I cant see it , I know its not a european blade because it was forged in that shape, but the steel does not have the character of my other dha, where a clear pamor can be seen if you look close that shows you the hairpin lamination, you can even see it on the naga dao, the lamination with zone hardening , I will take oil too it a few times to see if I cant make out a clear lamination, this one gives me some encouragement as its blade has the same character without the designs and without the fuller-- removed because it had another website in the picture-- it was a very decent sword, but no links!
