Italy:
Kill Baby Kill! (Don't be put off by the name; David Lynch ripped this film off like mad)
Black Sunday
Suspiria

Swedish:
Hour of the Wolf (Bergman vampire horror!)

Thinner
The Strangers (Scariest Movie Ive Ever Seen)
The Shining
Insidious
Alien
Predator(s)
Army Of Darkness
Shawn Of The Dead
Paranormal Activity
Jaws
Halloween (All)
Scream
Disturbia

I recently watched lovely Molly maybe I'm a lightweight but that movie freaked me out..its more physiological terror then bloody.

Tucker & Dale vs. evil..Now that was your typical good ol boys/redneck in the woods movie ..More of a dark comedy although very bloody....but it was awesome.especially for a low budget movie that didn't get much hype.

I really dig foreign/international horror films. Anyone have any suggestions?

The Audition - DO NOT google the plot. Just track it down and enjoy. Starts slow and finishes like a freight train. From Takeshi Miike (Japan).

Inside - A brilliant French film that creates an unbearable level of suspense. Occasionally flawed but still amazing.

Martyrs - Another entry from the modern french horror movement. Critically acclaimed and at times very challenging to view.

If you enjoy these, I can offer other options.

Thanks a lot- now I will be streaming on Netflix for the next 2 weeks watching some of these movies!!!

I want to see 28 days, but can never find it.

+1 The Grudge worked pretty well for me the first time around. Watched it double featured with Ringu on two days of no sleep, and it definitely didn't help me get to sleep that night.

Any Romero zombie movie.

The Prince of Darkness, The Thing, In the Mouth of Madness, or any other Carpenter.

Phantasm.

A whole slew of Japanese films.

Lord of Illusions, Books of Blood, Hellraiser up through number 3, anything else inspired by Clive Barker.

All the Halloween movies, Friday the 13th (the Final Chapter is still one of my favorites just for the end scene with Corey Feldman), and Nightmare on Elm Street of course. I'm a child of the eighties.

Peter Jackson's Dead Alive deserves a mention despite being the total opposite of what the OP asked for...

i liked cabin in the woods ok.

Another vote for Cabin in the Woods. It's not precisely a horror movie, but it is really damn good.

The Thing (John Carpenter's remake)
28 Days Later

lost boys
aliens
event horizon

Phantasm.
Hellraiser up through number 3, anything else inspired by Clive Barker.
+1 on those mentioned above as they are some of my favorites. Some others to consider:

Jacob's Ladder
Session 9
Crazy As Hell
Dead Silence
The Gate
Pumpkinhead
Don't Look Now
Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (1978 version)
Hell Night
Legend Of Hell House
Killer Klowns From Outer Space (obligatory mention ;))

Im a huge horror guy and have hated most of the past decades cheep thrills. I think The woman In black is defiantly one of the best, Went back to original Horror roots like the first amityville. Also I second dont be afraid of the dark, Reminded me of Pans labyrinth which has some very dark and thrilling parts itself.

'Pet Cemetery' creeped me out for days. 'The Others' has a twist similar to 'The Sixth Sense'. 'The Descent' has the whole cave exploring gig going for it.

The original "Amityville Horror" is the movie I remember scaring me the most. Of course at the time there was a lot of talk that it was a true story which added to the scariness. It was based on a book.

And though it didn't really scare me, the already mentioned "Phantasm" gets points for being really weird. And I like weird.

In my 42 years there has been only one movie that I absolutely had to turn off because it was too disturbing for me to keep watching and literally made me ill, it's called "Hard Candy". It wasn't gory or violent, but it involved a teenage girl that drugs a man she believes raped her friend , ties him up, and when he wakes she proceeds to calmly and methodically castrate him while describing the procedure to him step by step. And all the while his guilt remains in question. I went back on another occasion and watched the rest so I would know how it ended. I have a strong stomach and I never thought a movie could get the better of me, but this movie did.

I saw the new Amityville Horror. It had it's fright shock moments but not scary on the whole

My fave was the voodoo horror movie Skeleton key

I was really surprised by Cabin in the Woods. A nice departure from all the torture porn crap. Monsters and 80's slasher mash-up. Loved it!

Looking forward to Sinister for some reason. Heard good reviews.

I love horror movies! By my icon you can tell I am a big fan of the classics also. :)
