All right, you can stop now, this getting all maudlin is embarrassing me. ;)

To paraphrase Mark Twain, the reports of my condition have been somewhat exaggerated.

Moral of the story: Don't ignore your body when it's trying to tell you something.

This spring and summer I had been feeling more out of shape than usual, even going up one flight of steps left me a little winded. I decided I was too fat and out of shape for 51 years old, so started riding the bike again. On the flats was OK, but any little hill made me blow up and my thighs ached. For the last two weeks we have been on vacation, and last Wednesday, it suddenly got worse. A short hike left me gasping, with swollen ankles, and even getting out of bed made my heart pound. I really didn't want to have a heart attack in Calabash, NC. Of course, being a stubborn male, I didn't tell my wife much, just that I felt out of sorts and promised to call my doctor when we got home.

Monday morning my doc told me to go the ER at Cleveland Clinic. They quickly determined that I was severely anemic, with a count of 5 somethings when it should be 14 somethings. They had to put in three units of blood.

Apparently those bleeding hemorrhoids I've had for the last five months have really drained me. They scoped me from both ends, didn't find any other bleeding, then a surgeon banded the rhoids today, and let me go.

Yesterday my wife asked if I wanted her to make a post here, and I declined. But this morning she called Amy anyway, because she said this is family. So we really appreciate all the support and prayers from friends around the world. You guys are the best.

btw, can someone explain the 'smoke' thing? I have only seen it here on BladeForums, and while I understand the sentiment, what exactly is the origin? (If you want to send me a cigar, I promise to smoke it in your honor. :D )

NO EXPLANATIONS!!

It's just part of our collective mystique.

Anyway, I'm too busy being relieved. Don't do that again, OK?? ;)

You darned kids.:p

I don't know the origin of the smoke thing, but am glad to know you're ok. Thanks for the update.

Good news! Glad to hear you're going to be ok. Age has a habit of playing all kinds of tricks on our health...

Glad to hear you're well, Guy. Make sure NOT to disregard the body's signs. If I'd have disregarded mine after my wife found the lump in my thigh, I could have progressed VERY quickly to stage three lymphoma. Not something you want to eff around with. Good luck, and stay on your toes.

Glad to hear you OK Guy:thumbup:

BTW- I think the smoke has something to do with the prayers rising to God.
It's in Revalation, and I think in the Catholic religion the angels carried the smoke with or before prayer. Heck, I don't really know, but it has something to do with religion.

Then some send it and not prayers, so I guess it can also mean, "wishing the best for you"...or something close.

It doesn't mean there going out to smoke one in your honor like someone told me once:D

Edit- just Googled "smoke and prayers sent", I was close. But also think many use it today that are not religious but wish to send there best wish'es.

OK ... OK ... I sent Guy a PM with the collective wisdom of my many years of USAF life. Now he knows about "smoke."

But I ain't sharing it in the open!!

Now inquiring minds really want to know the whole story. Ken44 sounds like he is on the right track but it sounds like you have the inside story. Do tell.

Resinguy - Glad to hear everything is going to be ok.

Glad all is okay!

Just get your mind set on the next INFI trough run! * Play some Rocky music here...) :foot:

Good to hear you're okay, Guy.

Smoke rising means you need to check your pants. Someone may have lit you fire. :p :D

Crews were able to locate their fellow Marines on the ground by asking them to "pop a smoke" in the landing zone . The brightly colored smoke grenade identified the ground unit and landing zone and provided wind information to the pilot. Our purpose is to reunite those individuals on the ground with the individuals who flew as flight crew on those missions. We are asking them to PopASmoke so that they can find each other.

My take...when you pop smoke..you're asking for help and to be found safe and sound!

Welcome back, Resinguy!!:thumbup::thumbup:

Glad your doing better !

Sounds like a real PIA

I regularly burn sage to clear the house of evil spirits and bad energy (she's moved, but there's residual:foot:). So that's my context for 'smoke'
