I've been working on a frame lock design!

Back to the topic at hand......... Fairly Frame Lock Folder (Triple F?) By Christmas! Group buy in to help fund the tools purchase? How can we help..... drool...... help?

Don't tempt me! :) I have seriously considered offering a pre-buy or some sort of investment in my knives but every maker I know says don't do it. lol I still consider it!

I have a lot of my folder making gear accumulated now but still need a mill and probably a tapmatic. Tomorrow I will hear on my excavation bill for the shop's electric line that still needs to be buried. I think I can pull it all off if I get enough hours in the shop.

I'll let everyone know though... I want to have time to learn the mill well and get everything right.

I will smash my son's piggy bank!

Exactly! :D

So, should I put a group buy together on diapers and wipes to help you get more tooling?! You're coming up on the 1 year mark, be prepared bro. Be prepared.

:D It's funny, after keeping up on my own business for years I hardly notice the expense. ( :) I am constantly broke) My buddy told me he had to buy a $40 router bit and how much that sucked (so he could go make $1000 in a weekend as a contractor) and I just laughed. The first folder is going to cost me $4000 to make. ...but I don't think of it that way, I think I'm making 400 folders with $10 worth of equipment. Lol and $100 of materials.

I have it easy, look at the numbers on this jewelry store my wife used to run for someone else.

Buy $4000 worth of jewelry out of pocket. Sell it for $10,000... all in a month! (gold is usually doubled and silver tripled in price)
rent - $4200
employees - a paltry $500 a week for 2 employees, one full time one part time - $2000
Bills - heck lets say none and no expenses
That adds up to losing $200 a month even with a $1000 per week investment and decent sales. Wow! That is a true story by the way.

Current Design - 8.3" total

Ignore the holes, they can change... I will do different blade shapes eventually too. I'm also planning on a fastener in the middle of the spine that is not drawn in yet.

Sweet design... Looks interesting

Thanks!

The big hole in the back is for a possible massive chainring... if I can find them in high tolerances I may use them. I also plan on a huge pivot, probably a solid .25" one which is just massive.

I can also play around with the blade length, I can use more hardware on the spine of the knife and lengthen the blade. Right now I like the 3.3" blade and the triangular configuration/complete overkill on the fasteners.

How many great looking overbuilt folders have a slim profile like this...

Daniel- Thanks for the above post, re: expenses. I know one has to spend money to make money but WOW! Keep yer head. I Salute you!
About the folder... you will offer a Tanto, yes?

We even worked for free to help out the owner, he was retired and started the store to pay for his wife's medical bills.

My wife ran the place and I worked there anytime we could set up a booth. I wound up building up a good following with the local Native American Silversmiths and sold them a lot of good turquoise that was local to our region... sought after material these days. We ran the store and had a small setup of our own to make our income.

I was the first real importer of Larimar ( a stone) in this region. During the weekdays I collected material from my friends local claims in bulk and traded most of it to rock shops for a more diversified inventory. We collected rare ores and cuttable stone. One day I collected over a ton of rough rhodonite!

Tanto folder - for sure! I want to do the spearpoint/drop point I have drawn up first then eventually a harpoon tip, tanto and wharncliffe if the frame will allow it. I know the harpoon and tanto will work with this frame as I already roughed out the design on an earlier version.

Sweet design! Flipper? Or at least a thumb stud option, flat disc on the spine?

...that's why I'm spending so much time to gather everything to get the tolerances dead on, it will flip open without all of that. Check J Horton's videos to see what I mean, he uses a similar opening system and it just flicks open with ease. No ball bearings either. I hope to at least!

I will probably work out a disc or thumb stud eventually anyways, they are popular. I like them on a lot of knives.

Zen folder making... I take away to improve. lmao

By the way, thanks again for the mic! It will be my most important measuring device.

I have my pivot lap in too, I'm slowly getting there! I also bought a hand tapper and a few other folder tools, I'm slowly getting there on all the tools.

That folder looks sweet!
Just about the right size!

Can I have one? Stonewashed of course!:D

Thanks!

I trust your judgement on this.. The design looks amazing and your right it's pretty rare to see a slim but overbuilt folder.... This is going to be popular...
