I admire this knife a great deal, excellent example of the mixing of ancient&modern that shows off traditional artisan craftsmanship, valued materials and modern lines. Must be very satisfying to own.

Its the pinnacle of poolside ornaments. The paua shell? eyes look great.

Thanks to all
I'm certainly wiser about ivory and its associated materials.

Love that "Papi" knife. I don't think he's making knives anymore. He's switched to watches, and they are as fantastic as his knives. Great thread. Here's my ivories, although I don't have the tooth any more.

Beautiful scrimshaw and the way the Ivory ages just adds to the beauty....

GREAT thread. Ivory is my favorite handle material.

Kind regards,

Jos

Beautiful knives everyone. Here's a few images that might be of interest. The Joseph Rodgers and Sons ivory store early 1900s and an engraving from 1844 showing ivory cutting for knives in Sheffield.

Very good scrimshaw on view there, impressive skill.

Thanks too to S-K for the atmospheric photos, what's that thing on the ceiling? It can't be a fluorescent light, was it some humidity vent??

Regards, Will

Jim, yeah but just a few pieces...

Here's an updated group shot. The #68 Exterior Elephant Ivory is in the top left. Middle row of Interior Elephant Ivory #33 Conductor clip/coping (#3 of 3, just arrived today), #33 Conductor clip/pen, #85 Bullet End Jack and a CRK Mnandi with Mammoth Ivory and Devin Thomas Raindrop Damascus blade at the end. The bottom dagger is from Dan Graves with his damascus, nickel silver fixtures and fluted pre-ban Elephant Ivory handle.
