Izula Handle or Wrap? (and why)

I got my black Izula yesterday and also got the handle scales too. :D

Gonna spend some quality time with it in the woods next week but am wondering the best way to set it up.

I'll have to try both handle and wrap but what do YOU do and why?

I like the paracord wrap. Probably because I bought my Izula before the scales were available and have just liked the wrap since day one. That being said, I do own a set of scales, but I still prefer the wrap.

I don't have scales so one is plain the other is wrapped, as you see in the first picture this wrap is much more thicker for a better grip. I'd like to handle one with grips before I'd buy as I kinda am partial to my own wraps..

This wrap is traditional and offers little to no heft at all..

I have the wrap - because the scales weren't available yet when I got the knife.
at some point I'm pretty sure scales will be sitting in my mailbox.

Depending how the week goes I may just need another to have one with handles and one wrapped......

Then again I might need one naked too........

Hmm....two more then in the different finishes!

I like both (not at the same time!!) but the feel is completely different. I have smallish hands and with the scales my pinky tends to fit in the carabiner's hole. The grip is good though. With the wrap the grip is even more secure and this time my pinky stays on the side of the knife.

I like it both ways...

The one I EDC has scales, and the one I bring in the woods has the wrap.

It depends. I like the wrap more, but if I use this while hunting, I will likely switch to the scales so I can just let it go for a day or 2 without the Paracord getting all bloody.

It all depends on the typ of wrap you have. My Izula wears a 360 degree strider wrap, where the twist of the paracord is in the middle of the handle, thus giving it some bulk. Excellent wrap if youve got medium-large hands like mine.

Ive also got the Izula micarta scales mounted on my Eskabar. The Eskabars handle is identical to the Izula, so ive had the chance to compare the handle types head to head.

I really like the scales, more so than my paracord wrap, because it feels like your handling a proper knife. The micarta is real grippy too, and much cleaner if youre going to use your knife for food-prep. All sorts of food can get stuck in the paracord wrap, and it can be a bitch to clean. I tried that once, where another BK11 i had stank like onions.

I take it your gonna use your knife as a backpacking knife, which tasks also includes food-prep, gutting fish, etc, so my advice is to go with the scales or keep it naked.

Heres a pic of the 2.

I have a wrapped one that i like better than scales but i was thinking about going naked or scales for a hunting knife for the blood reason

I have handle wrap for now. My scales are in mail and TKC and hope to get them in next week.

I think Izulas are comfy with a 550 wrap but if it gets wet it stays wet for ages, which happens a lot in Britain for 9 months of the year. I go with the micarta scales, because you avoid the soggy, cold feel of cord wrap in the rain, especially in my preferred carry on the outside of a versipack or on the shoulder strap of a rucksack

Handles all the way. Para-cord absorbs everything and moves around under hard use. The handles make this a real tool.

I have the micarta scales on mine and I think it fills the hand nicely. I haven't used my Izula for anything more then a good 2 hour cardboard session but I don't think it would have lasted that long with a cord warp or being bare.

Hated the handle wrap. Just too small feeling for me to work with. I am halfway through putting cocobolo scales on my stripped izula. Pics will be coming within the week!

I had my izula for about 3 months before the scales came out, definitely prefer the scales to the wrap, it's just more hand filling that way, fits MY hand better than the wrap did.

I started carrying my Izula wrapped and on my belt. Now I prefer the scales. I pocket carry my Izula 95% of the time, and you cannot feel the extra thickness of the scales while in pocket. In the hand however, it's a nice change. Also, I like the scales for fishing and food making. Lastly, it simply looks better/cleaner IMO.
