Izula in action

Great pics! I like the wrap as well. The OD is my favorite color but the tan is growing on me.

Has anyone had success removing the coating from a portion of Izula's spine to use as a striker rather than the blade?

That is a choice some have made. I will let mine age with use. I'm in no hurry to make something great into something new.

It may not be much but I finally got to put my Izula to good use. Yesterday me and a few buddies went on a fishing trip. It was a 10 mile float in Kayaks. It was a swift river and my line was caught on a small limb. I was able to paddle up to the limb but the current was too fast to spend any time trying to get the lure loose. I had my Izula around my neck, pulled it out and cut the limb with one pass. I AM SOLD!

I know it is not a fighting off a Grizzly, but thought I would share it.

One of the coolest things I ever did with a knife was a similar feat. We were going down a jungle tributary clinging to a huge raft we had made out of logs. Must have weighed at least a ton. The river was full of trash and vines because it was flooded jungle. Me and another guy were to one side at the back. A huge vine got tangled causing the raft to pull towards us and about to crush us against a large fallen tree. We basically had no where to go. In one swift motion I reached down in the water and pulled a Cold Steel SRK out of my belt, came up and and cut the vine just in the nick of time. The guy beside me just had his mouth dropped open. Finally he said, "Wow, that was right out of the movies!"

That's the only time I can think of, in my life, that I have impressed anyone. Funny thing is it was pure luck but I never told him. Just smiled and said "that shit happens all the time."

I had to cut some small branches in my backyard yesterday. They were hanging over my grill and hitting me in the face while I was cooking. I pulled my Izula and at first tried to cut them off by slicing at an angle, but when that didnt work as well i pushed straight down and it went through like a laser. Very cool. Then I used the Izula to prep some hot dogs :)

Yeah, This reminds me of the time I used leatherman to cut the cable holding a slingloaded hummer off a Blackhawk. Yep, we were doing a combat drop at the Mall of Memphis back in 93. A gang of mall rats had invaded the food court and were holding the Panda Express crew hostage.

I had to rap out of the bird, swing underneath and grab the cable. The saw blade sure took some abuse that day. (I did manage to get it back to a razor shape edge using the file I took off one of one of the dead mall rats) The hummer landed right side up and we proceeded to drive through the plate glass in the food court, completely taking the mall rats by surprise. I leveled the whole court with a belt from my "SAW", being very carefull not to hit any of the hostages.

Our security company was given the key to the mall and free Panda Express for life.

Stay Safe, mall security is serious business.

I sanded the spine on my RC-6 with good results. I value the edge too much to use it on a firesteel.

Fatwood is the bomb! My boy and I split the wood up and used some dryer lint to kick this one off...He's been fired up lately (pun intended) We did the same thing tonight, but used the RC6 and some fuzz sticks of really dry Georgia Oak and a small piece of dryer lint to start a little fire. Baton training is progressing nicely.

Try sparking the fuzzstick made of fatwood. I baton pieces that are roughly the width and thickness of a wooden ruler. when I shave the wide section the paper thin wood curls up and catches fire easier than the thicker curled edges. Once you master this you might abandon the dryer lint.
A few weeks ago after the boys and I caught some bream in the creek I tasked them them cleaning the fish while I started the fire with fuzzsticks only (when everything was wet from the rains we "used" to recieve.)
Usually they start the fire but I didn't feel like cleaning fish this time. That fire was A "LITTLE CHALLENGE".
