Izula info

I don't know about anybody else, but I've been eagerly waiting the arrival of this knife for awhile. It's even become a bad habit of mine to search for "izula" on a daily basis. Well, I'm done ( I know, i'm quitting one week early.) Personally, the late product launch and the completely shrouded msrp has really turned me off. I don't like the idea of a company dangling their "carrot" over the heads of hundreds (if not thousands on BF) of prospective buyers without any inclination of a suggested price(other than $15k and a toe.) I will give RAT credit for building up some historic hype for this little necker; but in the wake of this product launch lies some revelation on how this company sells its products. So, to remedy this itch I've been scratching, I have had my own "izula-type" knife made. With a sharpened blank from Bryan Breeden, the handle drilling done by me, and some kydex by Jeff H.(pix to be posted as soon as the knife gets here in WSS.) I will have my own custom made necker next week (just in time for the dealers to receive their izulas!) all for under $100. So, to answer the question of how much the holy grail costs: since you can't find it, make your own; for about a texas penny. Thanks RAT for giving me the opportunity to make my own.

Note: This isn't a discourtesy to RAT, I know they do a lot of wonderful things for the WSS community, but it is a vociferation regarding the way businesses market and launch their products in today's marketplace. For everyone else's sake: Pray to the accounting gods they won't price skim it!!! Happy Holidays.

Sorry you feel this way but this is the open communication you get in the RAT forum......sorry you checked out early

I'm enjoying the wait. I have four other RAT's to keep me occupied until the Izula comes out. Plus I like knowing what's coming way ahead of time so I can save my money up to be able to afford it. It takes me a little while even when they are so fairly priced as the RATs. I've learned quickly that I won't be let down by my RAT knives so I have no problem letting the anticipation build up. It's that much more exciting when my new knife arrives. Not to mention the fact that it's a great exercise in restraint when it comes to buying up knives all willy-nilly like I used to. I'd rather buy a knife that took longer to come out and have it done right than sacrifice quality for my own instant gratification. Keep up the great work Jeff and crew!

The frustration surrounding the Izula release is, IMO, a result of the fact that Jeff and Mike are so close to the knife community and their customers.

We've been seeing pics of the knives from the very beginning of the process. Quite a few of us, myself included, have prototypes in hand and pics of these are curculating around the net.

Alot of companies don't want their products to even be seen until they are formally released aside from the random teaser image to get mouths watering.

RAT honestly wants feedback from customers and potental customers.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'd rather wait for them to get the product the way they want it as opposed to rushing it to market.

As far as the pricing is concerned, I don't think Jeff has any ill intent with the lack of pricing. Like he said, he just doesn't know yet and doesn't want to put out the wrong figures.

Man Burddog that’s a shame, your going miss out on a really good blade, Backed by top of the line customer service, as well as, one of the best warranties I have ever seen… As far as the Izula being hyped
Jeff has taken time to answer our questions about the knife and kept us up to date on its progress. To which I much appreciate, he did not have to do this, but he did , So this to me makes him pretty  in my book. RC taking time , tells me one thing, they really care about the customer and putting a top quality product in the customers hands. I’m Sorry your impatience got the better of you. It really is a great knife…

burddogg,

As already stated, you are very welcome here but when someone comes on the forum with just a few posts and their first post is argumentative, well, it causes folks to wonder about their real intent. I really don't think you're a troll, instead I think you're someone who is just tired of waiting. I understand that. I am too! We keep the lights on at RAT Cutlery by selling knives, so you can bet that we're as interested in getting the Izula shipped as anyone else.

Jeff

Jeff,

I thought a troll was a good thing? Ha! Lesson Learned: I'll keep my poo to myself. I hope the launch goes well. From the looks of it you'll have no problem moving these little babies. Besides, imitation is the highest form of flattery! I'll post some pix of my wannabee "izula" when it's finished.

The wait has helped Becker...I probably would have bought one eventually, but I ordered a necker to keep me from going into withdrawal while I was waiting for the PINK Izula!

burddogg,

Please do post the photos up when you're finished with the knife. Looking forward to it.

BTW: welcome to our forums. Glad to have you here. ;)

Anything we can do to help poor Ethan is always a good thing, Bless his heart. :D Be sure someone tells him we said that we felt sorry for him so we delayed the release of the Izula :) He will have some quick witted come back to that, I assure you.

I love it when people act like their going to stop buying knives once they get one of a particular kind.

"Nope, I'm done, I have this one necker, don't need anymore."

This is bladeforums for Gods sakes, people don't join here cause they need "one" knife. They join here cause they have a problem.

While Bladeforums may be the pusher, we consider ourselves the Methadone clinic. :D

 If people don't need more than one knife then why are there so many, " If you could only have one" , " your stranded on a Island", "you have to sell all knivs but one" , "zombies are attacking", etc... type threads? :p ;)

:D I only have one knife on me right now, only because I just empty my pockets
