Izula or BK11?

Well guys, it looks like fortune has smiled on me, and I have a job offer in the works. I still have to find out about pay and benifits, but I am thinking about buying some new toys...I have been toy-free for almost 2 months!

Here is the question:

You are stranded in the deep forest, lets say near the rockies, you have lost your pack and you EDC fixed blade, folder and multitool. You come across an "armored car" of a vending machine (you could never break into it). The IZULA and BK11 are each $1. Other knives are available, but cost upwards of $2. You reach in your pocket and find 4 quarters...which one do you buy? Your survival depends on it!

Depends. Me? the becker. If the Izula handle was just a hair bigger, then it would be the Izula. Well, if the Izula was the whole kit, with the firesteel, whistle, paracord etc... then Id choose it.

Izula....The BK-11 is great don't get me wrong, but the Izula is imo just a better quality knife..and the edge geometry out of the box is better...I love my izula but it also wouldn't be my first choice for a small knife..the skeletonized handle on both the izula and the becker are not suited for long use in the hand..I hate blade coatings, and I feel that the cause friction when cutting through wood, and they are both a little tactical in appearance for my liking... but they over all are great necker style cutters but If I was going to lay out for an Izula, I's probably pay the same for a fallkniven wm1 in vg-10 but that's just me.

go with the Izula. However this is due mainly just to the fact that I like a pointy tip to the blade. The Izula's sheath is also quite a bit better.

They are both great neckers and it is obvious the OP knows that from his whimsical post. Take note that the Becker is quite a bit bigger knife than the Izula, both in length and blade width. As a neck knife, I like the more compactness of the Izula but the Becker might be a more versatile blade under the mock survival perspective indicated in the OP. Personally, I like the blade shape and point on the Izula better while the bottle opener of the Becker kind of turns me off for the visuals (although it is a useful option).

I don't have the Izula, but do own the Becker and find it to be a great little knife. You would do well with it, IMO.

especially if there is some imported beer in the vending machine next to the blades. :p

You've just made the original question posed very difficult to answer now! Hmm, the dark beer will give me about 300 calories of sustenance, liquid and a container for water later on. The bottle cap can be use to scrape things. The label on the bottle used as tinder :D :D :D

I much prefer the ergos of the Izula. Both are decent. The Becker is much more stout and if you have big hands you'd probably like the Becker better.

For me, the better sheath, the better ergos (the Izula is really comfy when wrapped with paracord) and the pointy tip make it the better choice.

The Izula. It's the perfect size for my hands. Unlike many I'm able to run my pinkie through the hole at the bottom so I can "drop" the knife out of the way if I have to and keep it in-hand while working on stuff.

There needs to be a rofl smiley.:D

The old BK11 and sheath from Cam. I really loved.

I bought the Izula and got rid of it because I didn't like the sheath at all. It didn't fit well enough for my liking and seemed a bit sloppy. I have no experience with the new BK11.

First time I've heard anyone say that. I've heard quite a few talk about how tight fitting the knife is in the sheath that there are a couple points where the sheath rubs on the blade coating.

My Izula fits very tight in the sheath.

I'd get the Izula. I've handled both, and it just overall felt better to me. And, if it is the whole kit, definately the Izula :)

It's quite possible that I had a bad one.

+2 on that

This is a hard choice. They are both very well designed and very well thought out. Think about what matters more to you. Compactness and weight, sheath, and handle length. Think about other knives that you really like, and maybe pick the one that is most similar. What are you going to use this tool for and where are you going to store it? If not on the neck, but on a belt, then weight isn't a problem, etc, etc.
Myself, I went with both :P

Thanks guys, I appreciate the input. I think I am going to order the Izula, in tactical pink, harder to lose in the woods. I am still up in the air about ordering just the knife, or the kit...I'll keep you posted.

Definitely go for the kit! It's not much more and gives you lots of stuff to work with!

More toys is always better. Thanks 42. By the way, I cord wrapped my bushman per your instructions, and it came out great.
