I am sitting at home, fresh from the ER. Totaled my truck this morning on the way to work. Hit an icy bridge, and wiped out at 70mph. Happened so quick, yet in slow motion.

Hit the concrete rail at 70, head on. Jammes my shoulder in the A post, and slammed my ribs into the steering wheel, and somehow managed to hurt my neck too. Got a nice lac on my forearm. I was worried I was gonna flip off the bridge, but am gratefull it didnt happen. I was able to get myself out of the truck, and out of the way of oncoming traffic.

Well I ended up having to deal with MY ambulance which showed up after a passer by called 911. Ill never live THAT down.

After I told them I was OK, and couldnt get ahold of my wife, who was home sleeping after working a double at the hospital, another wreck came across the scanner, AND then ANOTHER wreck!!! All in all, 3 wrecks within a 1 mile stretch of road. One guy was fine, the other broke some ribs and rolled over his truck. So I hopped in with my ambulance crew and helped as much as I could with the pts... Road into the hospital with em, which happens to be a block from my house, so I walked home from the ED, after getting checked out.

2 vicaden later, im a little spacy, and in alot of pain. Couldve been worse. Still now have to deal with my truck which is parked at a conservation parking lot. Ill have to wait till I can rest a bit.

I came really close to flipping my truck over the bridge into the Lamine River. Got me thinking, and im happy to know I had my BOB in the truck and wouldve faired ok If I was able to get out of the truck. An emergancy blanket, FAK, and firestarting gear is comforting to have. Also the Stanley Fubar is a great tool. I used it 3 times this AM. Once to pry my fender off so I could drive it on the rim off the roadway, and twice popping doors on the wreck I worked after my wreck. GREAT TOOL!! get one if you dont have one.. One scary thing is I had my Gossman PSK in my pocket in a Kydex sheath, and when I hit, the blade went through the bottom of the sheath and stuck in my cigarette pack, stopping it from going into my thigh... Crazy....

Well, just thought id share my crazy story......

be safe out there guys...

Boy J it sounds like you were lucky and did not flip the truck or get badly hurt. Get some rest and get rid of the soreness yet to come. Take care. Doug

Glad you're safe and sound. Trucks can be replaced. Corny, but true.

Wearing your seatbelt, right?

You know it brother..

Thanks guys, I need all the cheering up I can get. Im in a super shitty mood. I just keep focusing on the positives. Like being OK, and seeing my wife and kids.

Still though, I loved that damn truck. :o

yike J.. sorry to hear that... glad you're okay brother...:) if you all lived in Cali. already you wouldn't have to deal with that crazy ice/snow stuff...:o

Concider it a lucky day, that you are alive after all this. Take care and heal up. The insurance company replaces your wreck with a new vehicle, it's time to start thinking about that shopping trip down at the dealership:thumbup:

Glad you're all right:thumbup: I hit an icy bridge yesterday and lost it for just a second, first time in my life I've had a truck just go sidways for no reason! 'Tis the season, all, Be Careful out there!

70 mph? Lucky day indeed! And then you went to work!
Good to hear you made it out ok!

No I am at home....I just hoped on the ambulance and helped out with the other wrecks(as much as I could, pretty beat up) Then just rode in to the hospital since they were goin to the one in my city. Just worked out that way, saved my wife a drive out to get me in this crappy road conditions(since I was 30miles out of town), and the way I look at it, Im EMS 24/7, so I felt obligated to help.

I might go in and work the night shift tonight depending on how I feel though....

Wow, J. That is definitely one of those mornings. Glad you made it out in one piece (more or less), and sorry to hear about your truck.

The part about being met at the scene by your own ambulance is a bit awesome, though. As is the part about getting in the ambulance and promptly going to work. That's hard core!

Close call with the PSK knife!

Rest up and get well soon.

Best,

- Mike

I'm glad you will heal, but I hope your insurance company comes through for you on the truck. Glad you are still kicking!

One scary thing is I had my Gossman PSK in my pocket in a Kydex sheath, and when I hit, the blade went through the bottom of the sheath and stuck in my cigarette pack, stopping it from going into my thigh... Crazy....

oh wow. I'd never imagined that sort of thing happening, kydex seems so sturdy, but I guess if it's a folder design...with enough pressure stuff can slip through...did the rivets pop?

This suddenly makes me appreciate the one piece molded sheaths on RAT knives.

Yeah, simple foldover design. It did pop one of the rivets, but the PSK is one of Scotts scale less models so If it had handle slabs, it probably wouldnt have happened. Guess I need a new sheath now too...:o

Its just a 95 Nissan Hardbody P/U, so doubt Ill get much for it...Its just my work truck, and I use it camping/mountain biking, cause its cheap on gas, and runs like a top.

I doubt Ill turn it in, I know they will total it. It starts and drives, just needs some signifigant bodywork, and a new tire as far as I could tell in the dark. Wasnt leaking any fluids or anything. Seemed cosmetic. Those Nissans are hard to kill!!! Im gonna go throw a tire on it and attempt to drive it home so I can survey the damage a bit.

However, looks like it will be sitting in the garage awhile till I can start working on it. Still now I need to go get a new vehicle I know that... Oh well, im due for a new car anyways...Probably not even worth i to fix. Who knows, too early to tell.
