Not wanting to steal any more time on another person's thread, I thought it may be good to start a thread where people could be confessional and admit they, too, are a jackass.
Mark, please be indulgent about this being outside "the Grinder", as there are obviously candidates who aren't paying members and couldn't participate otherwise. Thus, I think this is actually topical for this forum. I pray you agree. Maybe even make it a sticky.
:foot:
My idea is this: we get a lot of newbies who may be intimidated over our tendency to chide them for asking questions which the regulars have become jaded about from repetition.
If we go ahead and let them know about us, they may read something that should probably offend them, but instead can brush off the hurt as , "Ah, it's just one of the jackasses. They forget they asked the same questions at one time, too." They would know that we may be mean and petty and self-indulgent at times, but that despite our manner, we actually ARE willing to help. They could then go on to read the abundant knifemaking info available here and hopefully even participate. Eventually, some of them might want to be a member of the jackasses, too.
If enough people will be honest, we would have enough respondents to have a JITH, and could make little tokens symbolizing our spirit and trade them with each other. Indeed, the idea one could have one of those tokens, too, may inspire them to be a jackass. It could be an ongoing thing and maybe we could elect a Chief Jackass and a Stable. Eventually we could write magazine articles and compete with the other knifemaking organizations. Eventually have a certification program and hand out JA and MJA Stamps.
Since this is offensive, of course, I want to be the first to sign on as a jackass: "Hi, my name is Mike, and I'm definitely a jackass."
That said, I may be first to step up, but I'm pretty certain I can't be top jackass. Competition is pretty hot.
So, who's on board?
