IG, I tried overlaying your toothless Fugly foto on Sweany's pic of the jackass. i thought it would be a fine logo. I'll be danged if the jackass didn't run off the screen and disappear when I tried to do it, though. :eek: Guess I've gotta learn to hang onto my ass. :D

One of the problems with this medium is it lacks the nuances of non-verbal communication and the environment of a group of people all in the same room face to face holding a conversation in real time. This leads to a lot of mixed signals and misunderstandings. One of the other problems is it's easy to rip out an reply that is less than courteous - jackass response if you like with little or no consequences of any significance. I'd guess most don't mean it and in another time or face to face, would never respond like they did. I've been online since 1989 (300bbs with Ward Christiansons BBS) and it's gotten a lot 'edgeier over time. I don't see it getting any better -ever. If some newbies here get caught up in the occasional snippy comment and form a negative opinion of BF Shoptalk forum based a few individuals, well I don't know how to fix that either other than doing what one person at a time can do to create a culture here of respecting the rookie just as much as the veteran pro.

Mike, I'd guess the purpose of your provocative post was to gently remind us we 'regulars' are being watched and judged. Good for you, I'll try and do my part to be less jackass.
 
I don't want to interrupt this thread, but a friend told me I could make a knife from a lawnmower blade. Is this true?

I've been known as an ass, ass hole, smart ass, and occasionally a fat ass, I don't know if I totally qualified to be a jackass, I mean to be ass ociated with such a noble animal seems more like an honor than a detrement, especially after hanging around with people who make knives--- and bad jokes.:barf:

Yes, you can make a knife from a lawnmower blade. Make sure the mower is powered up and running when you try to remove the blade.

I guess that makes me a jackass!

Aww, now you got me thinking about 300 baud carriers... I miss that sound. At least we have the rights to tell off anyone in here whining about 20 images taking 6 FULL SECONDS!! to download. Heh, I remember downloading Slackware Linux in '91 on a 1200 baud modem, it took me a couple weeks

Speaking of jackasses, just wanted to clear something up Fitzo. I tried pm'ing you the other night as well :) Unfortunately I'm too poor for a real account and too lazy to send an email. Was just going to say, I didn't take afront to anything you had posted, nor did I mean for anything I replied with to sound that way. You just seemed pretty down on yourself, and was hoping to lift your spirits.

BTW Are there various degrees of jackasses in here? Such as Journeyman Jackass or Senior Executive V.P. Jackass?

I wonder whether it's significant that the first three jackasses were all Mikes? But what I really want to know is can we nominate Jackasses? Not that I can think of any right off who haven't already stood up to be counted.

Excepting myself of course. I have it on pretty good authority that I qualify too. So count me in. ;)
