Dan, that's ok. I know what I am! I grew up knowing I'm an AH.

When I was a kid, starting at about 7-8 years old I heard constantly from my Ma, "You're the same AH your Grandfather is!" He was surly, ornery, cussed mean to almost everyone. Now, I was my Grandpa's only blood grandson. He had a sharpening and metal shop in his late years, and was already 70 when I was born. I spent a lot of time in that shop with him, and we loved each other deeply. He was never once mean to me. I might'a been the only person ever he was like that with. I'm utterly certain that's where I got my passion for messing up steel.

When my Ma used to tell me that frequently, she used to get even more pissed at me, because I was just overjoyed to know I could be like Grandpa. If being an AH was what he was, then I wanted to be one, too. I think I carried on the legacy ok.

He died when I was 14. It was harder seeing him go than my parents. I'd gladly have given ten years off my life to be able to show him what I could do in my shop. I like to think he'd be proud.

Speaking of jackasses, just wanted to clear something up Fitzo. I tried pm'ing you the other night as well Unfortunately I'm too poor for a real account and too lazy to send an email. Was just going to say, I didn't take afront to anything you had posted, nor did I mean for anything I replied with to sound that way. You just seemed pretty down on yourself, and was hoping to lift your spirits.

BTW Are there various degrees of jackasses in here? Such as Journeyman Jackass or Senior Executive V.P. Jackass?

MJ, thanks for the kind words. Yeah, I was a bit squirelly last night. I quake at the idea, but it's almost like I'm getting some conscience or something after all these years. Sorry again about stinkin your thread up.

I don't know, eventually we might have to start a Junior Jackass rating or something, but most everyone who's posted here has already got their Master's stamp. Once the Royal Jackass becomes evident, we'll let him decide. Maybe we'll set up a poll. I do know that we shouldn't have to make anyone wait three years to get enough experience to get their Journeyman Jackass stamps because most don't take but a few months to make the grade.

This reply may rate me as a new and ignorant jackass and someone who still has trouble reading the nuances of the long timers. I would say to everyone who has volunteered for the designation, rate yourself on a scale of one to ten. Then divide by 2. None of you are half as bad as you would like to admit. Fitz you can divide by 10. You are not one tenth as bad as you describe yourself. In fact, you are an amazing person from what I know, and a wonderfull wealth of knowledge. Given the company, I would be proud to be known from now on as a jackass.

I'm with Nick (no, not with Nick). I'm not as much a Jackass as as Smart Ass and a Dick. I periodically make bad commentary and occasionally try to sound like I have half a clue. In truth, my comments are often irrelevent, and I'm still searching for that half a clue like a half blind rat with a cracked loupe, workin' in the dark.

I can definitely be a jackass on the rest of the forums, but I try to be respectful everywhere just the same, although I run wild in the Cove and WC. I'm trying to just learn the basics of knifemaking, I don't even know if I want to get into knifemaking, and after spending a lot of time in Whine and Cheese and the Cove, you guys don't bother me when you start joanin' each other or me, I'm used to the pirates and the bastids, hell, I'm one in training.


As opposed to what I do on the rest of this website, I try to sit back and learn a little bit in here.

but not a big as one as me, I dang near screwed my marriage up because of it and wasn't even aware of it, I was thinking about myself and what was going on with me and not why she was upset all the time,
I blamed her for POOP <mark) , I defiantly was a BIG F***ing AH and almost lost what I had built in 25 years with her.
that was almost 4 years ago now, things are good now but I'm still an AH but recovering

I spent a lot of hours playing checkers and hanging with him,time at the lake at camp, fishing, I awoke many times out of a sleeping bag on a screened in porch to watch the sun dance off the tips of the waves or to watch a moose walk by,
he let me drive him places,teaching me how to drive,, to the liquor store mainly, you see he was an alcoholic and died as he lived, in the bottle at a very young age but I would have traded 10 or more years to have him ten more years for sure . I cursed God for taking him while I was gone out to sea, for that matter for taking him period, I know it was his own fault but I just couldn't blame him for it..Him Passing hurt me more than it did his own son I know it did Man I think I need to go to work..getting old sux
