James Bond Now To Speak Arabic

There's a reason the British auto industry is a joke.

Largely, I'd say *was* a joke.
Why? Because. mostly, it's gone. A world beating Nissan plant in Sunderland (Northern England). TVR now outsourcing production.
German Rovers and Minis...

Fuller,

That is bad news indeed, Aston Martin is the only British car company I like (I would also like TVR if not for the apparently abismal build quality).

You know, it's a damn good thing that modern sports cars don't have front leather or vinyl "bras" anymore like they often did in the 80's. Now that Aston Martin is in Kawaiti hands it would probably look more like a Burqa.:)
Now that's funny! :D A burqa on something as sexy as the current Aston-Martin, what a horrible thought! Rather like a burqa on Sophia Loren or Diana Rigg.

Back in the day, when Colin Chapman was still alive, Lotus used Ford engines in most of its production cars. The use of Toyota engines started,IIRC, after he died and the company was taken over by a group of Singaporean businessmen. (SYK, are you one?) The Lotus Elan of the 1960s had a Cosworth-Ford DOHC four in it, the engine based upon the five main bearing engine from the English Ford Cortina that was also used as the base engine in the Ford Pinto.

Too bad Detroit boys can't build car companies that anyone would want to buy. Daimler Benz has egg on it's face for partnering with Crysler. Now THAT is sad.:D
Just out, Ford has sold Aston-Martin to a group of Kuwaiti investors for some $925 million. Somehow, I find that very sad. But is it any sadder than what has happened to Rolls-Royce and to Bentley? Somehow, Arab Aston-Martins and German Rolls-Royces just do not seem right to me. I guess that I am just too much of a traditionalist.

What next? Does Ford sell Jaguar to some Chinese businessmen?

Bond has spoken Arabic since The Spy Who Loved Me. And, he has a second in oriental languages from Oxford too, so he speaks Japaneese as well. He speaks Russian too. He's a very skilled guy don't you know?

Jeez, Gollnick, when I suggest that someone lighten up, you know that they are in need of a lift. Lighten up, sir.

And who could forget (though I did momentarily) that Bond has studied Danish at Oxford too.

"A cunning linguist," to quote Miss. Moneypenny.

At one time Rolls Royce cars were made or at least assembled in Massachusetts !

Be interested to where that info comes from.

As far as I was aware RR cars have only ever been made at the motor works in Crewe in Chesire in the UK. Parts may have been made in the US and shipped over but I thought the manufacturing in the US was pruely for the aero engines.

Am interested in RR history is all as my gradfather was the drive systems specialist at the Crewe works from shortly after WWII. He visited a US facility of RR and I still have the gift he received...a black SAK with the RR emblem on it :D

So any bits of info about RR always interest me (is also good to hear them from someone else as well, as there so much anonymous stuff on the web about companies that you cant always be sure its legit, can you).

Rgds

In 1919, the company incorporated as Rolls-Royce of America and acquired its first US manufacturing plant in Springfield, Massachusetts. Production began the following year. By 1923, Rolls-Royce presence in the U.S. was substantial, with offices in Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Cleveland, Hartford and Troy, NY, in addition to the original office in New York City. The company was further represented in 16 cities across North America. Rolls-Royce

of America Inc. manufactured nearly 3000 Silver Ghosts and Phantoms before succumbing to the Depression. To this day, Springfield is the only place outside England that Rolls-Royce cars have ever been built.

Q. Why do the British drink warm beer?
A. Because British beer tastes of something and is to be appreciated, unlike the mass-produced weasel piss that Yanks drink, which has to be served at sub-zero temperature to disguise its abject lack of flavour!

:D

Its all about Lotus. Light weight=go faster...
but not enough power... Lotus w/insane american muscle= Hennessy GT.... Bond needs that....Or we should make a america CIA character and give it to him... Jack Ryan turned Bond? I dont think Tom Clancy would aprove of my idea....

Anyone know the movie Roger Moore drove an Aston Martin?

Car companies have been being bought and sold since the beginning. Folks were probably upset when Daimler merged with Benz in 1924.

That said, it is a little disappointing

I could be wrong, but I dont think he drove it in any of the Bond films.... the db5 was before him...

jaguar, range rover, and aston martin have all be owned by arabs at one point too.... i think. Now an indian company owns jaguar and range... Lotus is in the hands of a malaysian company... Rolls is pretty much German...... So if someone wants a real British car i guess its just maclaren and williams f1.... coach builders and mg dont count as cars....

My first and most important requirement of a car of motorcycle is that it run when I want it to run. I have serious objections to standing by the side of the road in the middle of nowhere in the rain, because the prince of darkness has struck again. There's a reason the British auto industry is a joke.

100% agree with this. Anyone who has a romanticised view of British cars or motorcycles has never owned one.
