January Challenge Discussion...

Usually buried in the stuff but this year, nada!!

Last year was nuts -- we didn't have a full week of school for about six weeks in a row, and on days we did have classes, half my students never showed up (work with troubled kids from all over, and they don't come in if their district is snowed out). I got pretty used to the sweet sound of the phone ringing for the snow chain at 5 in the morning...

Ethan says ya'll can use sand, if you don't get any snow.

:D

I'm serious too, btw.

Just a dusting of snow here, but come this afternoon, that'll be gone. If we get hit with 24" overnight again, maybe I'll have a shot!

Interesting, I also teach on the side. Good feeling isn't it? :)

Then he's in trouble because, I could really build the best sandcastles in the whole, wide world! (according to my mom)

frozen ice sand doesn't insulated too well, and is probably worse than just ice. worse, it'll melt fiercely quick in the sun...

still, a good trick is to cover a stack of hay with a tarp, then start packing soaking wet hay around it in a spiral, let it freeze, add more, and more... then cut a door in, and remove most of the hay inside... oh wait, that uses hay :) can't be having that.

no snow. what a disaster.

i'm thinking the knife + 1 tool might be a serious limit...
<snip>
mmm, a backhoe is a tool :)

funny, this -- I was thinking about my tractor as my 1 tool, especially if I get enough snow someday to need to plow the drive and parking areas.
So far I have no hope for snow this month -- maybe things will look up in a few weeks. (supposed to be 54 & sunny here today)

Didn't you hear it yet? Government put a ban on winter this year, because the last one was so horrible for the Deutsche Bahn.

No snow for us this year.

I certainly hope not, just bought a polar coat!!

Die Bahn can bite my ass, totally useless train system! They should ask the French to take over, best transportation system in the world!

Yeah, we've got some cold, but the government here couldn't find room in the budget for snow this year...

Kinda weird to say this, but I'm in ND and we always have snow, but right now we don't really have any. This time of the year I usually have a huuuuge drift in my yard. So far we have had a couple dustings and then three inches one night. A week after the 3 inches we had a week or two of high thirties and 40's and it melted. Last week we got another couple inches and it has been in the high 30's the last couple days and tomorrow is forecast for 45. Our snow is leaving again at very fast pace. Last winter at this time we were sitting in at least 40 inches of snow by now and the high temps would only be in the single digits. It has been a weird winter.

I'll agree to that, although we don't usually get anywhere near that amount of snow where I am. Still, we haven't had more than a dusting on the windshield so far.

Looks like its gonna be a race to see who gets snow first :).

We've had maybe 2" so far and supposed to be 50*F this weekend. Mild winter - I am still picking swiss chard in my garden.
