Well, since Jason Occena decided to bring this back up, I'll go ahead and post the original story.
Bad Jason Occena
Just wanted to put this out there:
About 6 months ago I was looking for a Benchmade Infidel, the 3300 model that's pretty tough to get ahold of for civillians, at least it was anyway. I'd seen a couple on fourms for sale around the 320$ mark, so when I saw a local guy had one for sale for 250$ with all the box and sheath, I jumped on it. I met the guy in person at a local Starbucks and he claimed to be a ex special forces member who had deals with Benchmade and a bunch of tactical nylon companies, as well as to be a product tester for several gun companies.
We had a fairly nice discussion for about fifteen minutes over coffee and then got down to business, he showed me the Infidel and it was perfect, not a scratch or blemish on it, and I distinctly remember the blade grind being perfect. I told him I'd take the knife but he said he wanted some time to consider because he was "emotionally attached" to the knife, so I told him that I'd be willing to meet him at his apartment later that day to pick the knife up.
Anyway, this guy, his name is Jason Occena (you can google his name and come up with some rather interesting stories about him ripping other people off) gives me a call and lets me know his address so I can swing by and pay him for the knife. By this time I was getting a little nervous, I could have been walking into a trap for all I knew and the guy was going to mug me, but I had a Sig 220 on me and a couple of knives. Despite that, I'm only 6 foot one and 190 pounds, this guy was massive compared to me, I knew if there was a problem, I'd be screwed, but I went to his house regardless.
So I showed up at his house, I took a gun with me just in case but I knew I'd be way outgunned whatever I did. I had taken every precaution I could, premeasured the cash and had it in a paperclip, had a loaded Sig 220 on me and several blades and I had called a couple friends and told them where I was and let them know if I didn't call them in 15 minutes to call the police. Long story short, when I walked into the house the guy had a TDI Super V on the table, the infidel on a counter so that I'd have to turn my back to him to pick the knife up and he demanded to be paid at the kitchen table.
The whole deal was incredibly sketchy, and designed I think to make me feel very out of place and intimidated. I picked the box up without looking at the knife, I just felt it had some weight to it and I opened the box to see there was a sheath inside with a black knife but I couldn't deploy the knife to see the blade because of the uncomfortability of the situation.
I left, luckily without a bullet in my back, and was halfway home before the adrenaline wore off and I took the knife out to take a look at it. I then noticed this wasn't the same infidel I had taken a look at back at Starbucks. This one had an uneven blade grind and a couple scuffs on the handle. There was also a lot of dirt in the knife, and it's deployment was slow and the lockup not solid at all. It seemed that I'd been taken for a ride.
I had the guy's phone number so I called him, but I didn't get an answer. I emailed him three times when I got home, asking him about the knife and if it was a second because of the grind, but I never got a response. To this day I have never had a response from him. I would have gone back to the apartment and demanded a refund if it wasn't for the fact that I felt so intimidated by the entire deal, afterall I'm just a college student and this guy is ex special forces... if things went south I'd be toast.
I ended up grudgingly keeping the Infidel and managed to fix the lockup issue and the dirt by application of Brake Free, but it still had that jacked up blade grind.
I want to get the word out that Jason Occena should NOT be trusted. He's a grade A slimeball, resorting to intimidation, deceit and dishonesty. He's on a lot of forums, claiming he can sell hard to get items and then ripping off the people who send him money, just google it! Beware of him, if you think you're dealing with this scumbag, do NOT proceed with him.
