Jean rivets and titanium

You could use some fabric glue and just glue a bit of denim over the rivet. Of course, if you can sew leather, you could sew a fabric or leather bit there as well.

Pocket slip with a clip would work as well. I know a guy who can make them…🤣
No pocket clip sheaths here and sewing cloth vs leather isn’t something I would want to do
New seems like the best route
But I appreciate being such an easy target for you guys 😂

I can't say I've seen that particular damage over time, but I'll certainly give a nod to wearing jeans forever. It ain't about the cost. Something about denim just gets better and better and better with use, and you can't buy that level of comfort new. Personally, I try and patch 'em, but I'm not good at it. Sure would try, in this case, before throwing them out.

Thanks that’s a good idea, maybe I’ll try my hand at sewing them up along the edge of where the rivet is and that might help prevent it from contacting.

Thanks Dr Obvious 🤣 this was more of a ‘be aware’ type thread so people that see marks and wonder why.
And yes, these jeans will be retired 😇 I do have a tendency to wear things out!

Edited to add this photo as it shows the digging into the titanium just from inserting it a couple times

you made a thread about it......youre gonna get questions trying to understand your statements, and suggestions. if ya had thought of getting new pants....ya wouldn't need this thread.....so you're welcome gary.

I stopped wearing jeans a few years ago. For me, both Levis as well as Wrangler didn't hold up like they used to. I was a teacher at that time, so it's not like I was working on construction sites...I was in a classroom all day. Yet despite that low-impact environment they would start to shred in different places...like the material was self-destructing. I also found most jeans were either too baggy or too tight for me. I'm 6' and around 190 lbs. I finally switched to chinos which are better in the south Florida heat anyway, and can dress up or down, depending on what I'm doing.

Over the years I have noticed that on some brands of jeans that the rivet at the top corner can come in contact with the side of my pocket knife when I clip it to my pocket. Which causes the very edge of the rivet to glide up and down the titanium of the scale causing the sand blasted finish to be…basically ruined.
Of course I didn’t do a before photo of how it looks, hindsight and all that, but it was a bit mucked up.
So to ‘cover up’ the mess I decided to just even out the mess and make it look more intentional 😇 using a piece of scotchbright to even out the errant marks so it blends in. The pocket clip has the usual snail trails from carrying it but those marks from the rivet were pretty ugly by their lonesome.

I have seen some YouTube videos of repairing the sandblasted titanium using sandpaper and a piece of wood to hammer down to make it look like it was sandblasted again but it had varying degrees of success and with this small area plus the fact it would just happen again, I opted for this to make it overall look better.

Have any of you guys and girls have this experience? I also had a Sebenza get similar marks.

Sell that one to me cheap and it will ease your mind buddy!

Indeed I did, and I can see where saying one thing and thinking it are two different things sometimes, sorry for any confusion, and no offense on that Dr Obvious thing, wasn't meant as a slight at all, I would say that jokingly at folks where I worked all the time when they did indeed state the obvious.
I guess the cold and snow we had put me in a reflective mood and then I noticed the scratches on the knife...not pleased at all of course, I was moved to post a warning thread about my day.

While I like leather work, I haven't stitched clothing so that has me considering trying it, I did a quick looksee on the big river store for 'mending jean pockets' and they came up with lots of suggestions but basically using some iron on stuff, maybe I can trim the patches down, iron it on the spot and then try to stitch that line beside the rivet so the knives won't be able to rub against it.

But as I said earlier, this was just meant as a warning for those that might be wondering how those scratches got on their knife and they can check their jean pockets too.

Oh thank goodness.

I was sure that this was going to be a photo thread of titanium frame locks next to bleached skinny jeans. 🤢
