Jeans thread - your favorite?

For comfortable jeans the Lee Extreme Motion ones are great. I started buying them after I started lifting weights and grew my thighs and ass a little bit. They look reasonably professional for work, fit really well, but don't last all that long.

I have switched a lot of my pants and shorts over to Outliers. They are pricey but last really well, the first pair I bought a couple years ago still look like new. The Slim Dungarees and the Bomb Dungarees are my favorite. I bought my first couple pairs through their "WTF" sales (2nds and returns sold blind at deep discounts, kind of like when Busse does grab bags) to see if the sizing worked and once I found it did I started buying them off eBay or Reddit.

There’s some great info in this thread - thank you!

Let me run this one by you all: I'm having an EXTREMELY hard time finding pants to fit my 17 year old. He's young, tall, high waisted, and there isn't an ounce of fat on him - he wears 29 or 30 x38. No, I didn't type that backwards like Google always thinks when I search for pants for him. He wears a 38 inch inseam, and has a 29-30 inch waist.

The only jeans we have found that come close to fitting him - the only ones that sell a 29 or 30 x 38 are Wrangler Cowboy Cut, but even those don't have a high enough rise so he has a very uncomfortable wedgie all the time (I'll spare you those pictures) - but at least the length is correct.

The only pants he owns are several pairs of the Wrangler Cowboy Cut jeans and one that are vintage from eBay and khaki colored (they apparently don't make the khaki color in that size anymore) to wear when jeans aren't appropriate (still denim, but at least a different color). And he has a suit we had to have custom made for him for Sunday's, weddings, funerals, etc. That's it, those are all the pants he owns. Those are all the pants we have found in his size.

I'll send a free knife to the first one (maybe multiple people depending on response) who can turn me on to a source of 29-30x38 men's pants with a rise high enough to fit my son without giving him a wedgie. Bonus for non-denim khaki and dress pants.

Please! Don't let me down, Blade Forums!

those Cinch jeans have 38 inseams listed at 29 and 30 waists. don't know how the cuts are for wedgie reduction. I'm thinking that's gonna be an issue in jeans since I read horsewights comment on 4 sizes longer for riding reasons. so waist and such likely will be setup for a 34 inseam setup.

38 inseam, wow. how tall is your boy?

Thank you - I'll give them a call and ask about rise measurements - I couldn't find that info on their website. He's actually not all that tall - just shy of 6'2", but super high-waisted and long-legged. He has friends who are 6'4" and only wear a 34" inseam. LOL! Fortunately, we have found a brand of cargo shorts that fit him well.

hopefully one of these makers makes a for tall folks setup.

I was reminded of this thread the other day when Levi's were on sale... they were all made in pakistan or bangladesh.

I think I'll try GAP next.

I am also tall and skinny. About 6ft and no more than 160lbs. Try the Cinch Silver Label. They make them in 30x38 and they are extremely comfortable, durable, and sit on your waist like they should both standing and sitting.

Do you have a country/western store anywhere close? Might be worth a drive.

Thank you - I'm giving them a call when they open up on Tuesday after the long weekend. The Silver label most likely won't work - the description says they "feature a lower, more modern, rise." But not all of their fits/labels address rise in the description so I'm hoping they'll have something that will work.

We drove to the closest boot barn this past year. Even though they stock Cinch, which makes long inseams, stores don't seem to stock those rare sizes. At least not that we've found yet.

A site called The Western Company carries jeans in that size (I saw Stetson 100% cotton right away). It might sound nutty, but a call to Sheplers might be a big help as they can look by sizes.

Good luck with your search.

Whatever jeans aren’t locked up. The wife made me go buy new blue jeans the other day so I went to FredMeyer and everything was locked up except Lee. Otherwise I just like Dickies for work pants. Carhartt was great twenty years ago but they discontinued their flannel-lined trousers and their new stuff just seems to get thinner and thinner.

They do sit a bit lower, but it’s more of a mid rise that allows some freedom of movement. It is a little different if you’re used to traditional high rise, though. I like them because I am tall and have long slim legs, and they have been the slimmest of all the “labels” I’ve tried.

I don’t know which flannel lined trousers you used to get from Carhartt, but they still have jeans and ‘work pants’ with the flannel. I still like a lot of their stuff, but partly because they have a great store here that carries huge assortments (and the winter work bibs and jackets are nice).

Well heck that was me, although I was a lil taller at that age, 6'4". Have an acquaintance we call Midget and he's all legs. My eyeballs are at the center of his chest. He looks down at you and says: "You can call me Midget, or you can call me Kevin but not both." Yes sir. Anyhoo, Mr Midget is a dyed in the wool Wrangler Original Cowboy Cut Jean kinda guy. The Wharf, a western store in Ventura Ca, special orders Wranglers for him and has his whole life he told me once. No idea what his inseam is. The Wrangler website is showing their Original Rigid Cowboy Cut Jean in 28x38. I was a 30x40 in my mid twenties, don't remember what size earlier

So we was talking about stacking and 501s not working for taller guys. Remember they are shrink to fit and when ya start out at 40 inseam and then they lose 4"s according to the tag, ya got no stack. After the Great Wrangler Migration, I and lots of other guys went to 501s but I always had to "shotgun" my boots, that is tuck the pant leg into the boot tops. Well known in the cowboy world when shopping for 501s to get the ones made in Mexico. Not only they do seem higher quality but the sizing is consistent and not so on other places.

Got more but yet again time to feed horses.

Shared this before .... Wranglers all the way. These days, I'm old and nerdy enough that even customers are OK with it (no fixed blades there, however :) ).

Either "20x Advanced Comfort", or "ATG", with their great tool and folder pockets, and additional protection on the bike

I love the wrangler ATG pants. Pockets are gigantic, pants are durable. They're my favorite pants that I've found

this is good california real western cowboy information. keep it coming..please.....

I don't own or ride horses......these are things I know nothing about.

needs a different thread but wouldn't kind reading on cowboy boots and styles and construction that y'all like for the working side more than the dress up side.....but both I'd find interesting......
There's this thread along those lines:

Stacking:

Shotgunned:

Some boots work well for shotgunning and others not so much. I didn't like the fact that I had to shotgun the 501s. Then of course their support for certain political views (anti 2nd Amendment) soured many.
Had a buddy that put some weight on and could no longer wear some jeans he had. One of these guys that will buy a stack of jeans and then hold onto them and wear a few pair at a time. So he gave me 4 or 5 pair of these jeans. They were Stetson slim fit and I loved them. Fit right, solid jeans that worked and lasted:

Went to the NFR one year and visited the Stetson booth. I'd even taken a pic of the tag on the inside of a pair so I'd get the right ones.....but no. They'd stopped making them. The gal that was helping me said she'd never even seen that tag before. We went to her boss and he got the behind the counter catalog out and said he couldn't even find a reference to them and he'd worked for Stetson for 25 years and he'd never seen that tag. So none to be had. I wore em to smithereens.

Time to feed again.

I'd take him to a dedicated denim shop (some small shop that sells smaller company products) and ask/try out pants. You might have to burn hundreds of bucks for one pair but might make a world of difference. In return he will get pants that last longer and are made ethically.
