I’ve never understood how people have gotten their pocket clips caught on stuff and it’s bent outward, is this just a product of poor spatial awareness? Are you marking your territory like a cat by rubbing up on inanimate objects? This issue has surfaced more than I’d like to admit over on another knife group. So much so that some don’t even buy Shiro/certain knives solely for this reason ?

Is there any situation you’ve been in and thought to yourself “Man that was a close one, almost popped my clip right off! Glad I’m carrying this $25 Gerber!”

Below are some pictures for reference;

My umnumzaan clip snagged on the seat of my tractor as I was hopping off and bent out pretty good. Caught me by surprise as I was kinda dangling off the edge of the seat, wondering what had happened. Bent it back into shape and back in business again.

I use to get the clip on my Junkyard Dog caught on everything. That clip was unreasonably huge.

Yeah half the issue seems to be most people are afraid to put in the elbow grease/time and fix it themselves. They immediately are asking if anyone knows where they can obtain a new one or if anyone sell a service to bend it back.

Walking through the woods a sappling pulled a delica out my pocket years ago.

I know seat belts are notorious for snagging clips.

I don't think pocket clips being snagged is as unicorn like as you think a OP.

I have to admit I’ve put some small micro scratches on the very edge of my car door due to my wife parking so damn close to mine in the garage, but once again I guess it’s just poor spatial awareness ?
Plus you’d never ignore perfectly good knife brands due to their clips getting snagged on things more than others would you? I think it silly they turn their noses up at brands like Shiro and other mid tech options solely for this reason. Do you not agree?

A couple of weeks ago I somehow managed to snag the clip of my ZT 0909 on a low corner of a piece of furniture. It bent it out pretty good, so I removed it, bent it back, and put it back on. It pissed me off, but the clip has better retention now.

Hahah there is always a silver lining! I’m a firm believer in that my friend. Hopefully wherever it caught the furniture it’s not noticeable :D

It’s called momentum, that’s how it happens. It’s very understandable how it happens. People hit their elbow, knee, shin on stuff all the time. When ceiling joists are on 14” centers instead of 16”, things on the outside get hung up easily. Or when you have an access hole that you have to exhale in order to get through, it’s best not to have anything on the out side of your pants. That’s why I’ve learned to like a pocket slip for my knife. I like my knives a lot and prefer to keep possession of them and not have one of those oh crap moments

Nah. It was on an old beat up cabinet that we refer to as the "Brown Thing". Its cool.

Do what we do, cut the strips off. (Bah bah, it's windy and cold, bah bah. *puts in new ones* They are all scratched up! And they are annoying to walk through. Can't you remove them? *cuts them off in the middle so you can walk through freely* But it's getting cold again! We need new ones!....)

Haven't done that with a knife yet (knock on wood), but I've banged my watch on seemingly every door casing I've walked through. I never have figured out why I subconsciously like to cut it so close when walking through a doorway.

I agree 100% sir. If I have to go anywhere remotely tight or I think there is even a 2% chance that my knife could become lost I take everything out of my pockets then proceed. If I’m talking attics then I whip out the ol’ utility razor blade for the job and once I’m out, I quickly place my “edc knife” back in the pocket.

I will have to look into this pocket slip idea.

Are you ex military or law enforcement? It could have something to do with previous training and now that’s simply the extra precautions you take. I know my buddies dad who is retired law enforcement HAS to have a visual on the door of any establishment he is at, even restaurants.

I used to work for a cable company and would have to push through tight spots multiple times a day. Sometimes it was crawling through attics, under houses, squeezing behind furniture, pushing through trees or bushes, etc.
It wasn't a matter of not having spacial awareness, I knew it was going to be a tight squeeze but that was what had to be done to done to complete the job.

Yes..so why not take the extra 15 seconds and empty your pockets if you can foresee such a sight? You’ll never catch me taking my $800 Shiro into an attic or under a house !

I wear Dickies 13" shorts a lot and back pocket carry is really more like hip carry. The back pockets are a bit wider than normal so the knife sits more to the side... plush arm rests on chairs seem to be particularly snaggy in this setup.

As you sit down, if you're not perfectly centered in the chair, pocket clips like to snag the arm rest upholstery. I have one executive chair that's really bad about it.
