Jell-o Clips

I wear Dickies 13" shorts a lot and back pocket carry is really more like hip carry. The back pockets are a bit wider than normal so the knife sits more to the side... plush arm rests on chairs seem to be particularly snaggy in this setup.

As you sit down, if you're not perfectly centered in the chair, pocket clips like to snag the arm rest upholstery. I have one executive chair that's really bad about it.
Haha thanks for sharing this! I can imagine trying to explain this to a “non-knife individual” must be quite the task. I’ve only been into/carrying a knife 24/7 for about 1.5 years so far and the only product I’ve witnessed come from this hobby so far are worn jean pockets and as stated earlier some little micro scratches on the very edge of my car door. I fear it’s only a matter of time...

Yes..so why not take the extra 15 seconds and empty your pockets if you can foresee such a sight? You’ll never catch me taking my $800 Shiro into an attic or under a house !
Because I wasn't crawling through all of that crap for the fun of it..... If I was pushing through trees or bushes it was because I had work on the other side of them.
Maybe you carry a knife as a fashion statement, I don't know your life, but I would use my knife a crap ton throughout the day.

Not sure if you missed my earlier post but I’m an electrician. I’d be willing to bet I use a knife just as much if not more than you. Like I said..attic work/under the house work I’m brining out the Husky utility razor blade. Making up CT Cabinets, MDP’s, VFD’s,stripping romex, wire insulation, zip ties, boxes I could go on..I’m going to use my “edc” pick of the day so I can enjoy performing the task at hand.

I had a Spyderco wire clip bend on me, it kept snagging the seat belt in my one car. It happened occasionally before that, just never as bad in those pics.

So you're saying you're glad you carry an inexpensive knife when you have to push through tight spaces instead of a $800 shiro where the clip might catch on something....
Wtf was your question then? Just because your work knife is a husky instead of a gerber doesn't change the fact you are doing the exact same thing as other people when they decide to pick a cheaper knife or one with a unobtrusive clip when they know they will be in situations that the clip might snag.

Then why own it at all? If you buy it and are afraid of it getting beat up in the first place it seems like you're squarely in the same space as the folks that won't carry one because they're afraid of snagging the pocket clip. Nothing wrong with safe queens at all, but you're echoing their concerns, just slightly reworded.

No I’m saying the husky utility knife is always in my bag for when I need it if I know the task at hand is going to have me crawling through/into tight spaces. Once I’m out of said place the razor knife goes back into my tool bag and out comes the “edc blade of choice” for the day. Not sure how else I can word this. I guess I believe in always being prepared.

Using a blade and abusing a blade are two totally different spectrums, am I wrong?

I DO NOT believe in safe queens at all. If you’re buying a blade just to look at it then be my guest.

How long have you been into this hobby. Maybe it’s just a matter of WHEN it will happen not IF haha.

Because edc's are only carried up until the point where you have to use a knife and then you switch to your back up knife.

You see, it's not actually a safe queen as long as you take it out for a walk every once in awhile.
Not sure how or why you don’t believe it’s a good idea to carry something you don’t mind using for those super grimy/heavy task? Why else do people buy fixed blades for? For the simple fact there are no moving parts and they know they can use that blade for heavy and grimy cutting task. Then they have a “nicer folder” for the more intricate cutting task?

Holy crap....
I absolutely believe in carrying something I don't mind using for heavier tasks. That's why I carry certain knives with me for work, specifically knives that have less obtrusive pocket clips or knives that it won't break my heart if I lose them.

I thought this post was started about how people manage to get their clips snagged?
If I take a beater with a clip into tight spaces and around corners at work isn't that the same thing? I thought it was a question of "how are people so clumsy they snag their clip" not "why take a shiro when you can take your kershaw"
For the record I've had clips snag on the oddest things and I like to think I have halfway decent spatial awareness.

I carry a utility knife with me at work along with my Endura. Sometimes you need a blade for a task you know will ruin the edge. I'd rather throw away a utility blade than spend an hour reprofiling mu carry knife.

Tasks like scraping something off of glass, cutting against metal or concrete, etc. are just better suited to a utility knife. The fragility of a pocket clip has never really been one of my concerns though.

You’re correct, I guess I haven’t been in the game long enough for it to happen to me.

I learned at one of my jobs to wear a knife with the clip removed (frn Chaparral), because that place is just asking to get your clip bent off. I don't like walking around having to be conscientious of whether a tight squeeze will catch it on something. Had bad luck.

Ive never had this happen, but it has to my brother more than a few times.
If you met him you wouldn't question how it could happen though.
