I have been carrying chisel ground knives for over 20 years they are a very old design so the fad part is just not correct.

when I said fad I meant the current push for the designs, not that they didn't have a purpose or have a long history. I wouldn't mind carrying one just to be able to say that I have user experience, but all of my experience comes from actual chisels (which are excellent for what they are designed to do).

This one isn't a full chisel, but it's part of an interesting set of asymettrically ground japanese swords/knives that I saw a long time ago. Sadly I don't have the images from the set I initially saw, this is the only I could find:

I've wanted a Hartsfield knife since 1993. I always thought that they were so cool. I didn't know that he had passed.

C'mon, G... There is a big difference between stating one's opinion and opinion overkill. 4 posts from one poster and a "demotivational poster" image tossed in as one of them...really? This along with thread derailment and rudeness that even the OP felt necessary to point out. I arrived at the same conclusion and stated my opinion about that along with a warning to watch it.

Jaxx, I understand, you don't like me. I don't blame you, nor do I care in the smallest bit. It's fine, we're not buddies, but this is getting ridiculous. I posted a string of smiley faces (not the banned ones) a while back to someone who completely trolled me and flipped out/cursed etc.. You told me I should "edit" the smileys as there were just "too many" and it was insulting. I laughed, because the notion was silly that you were trying to reprimand me for putting smiley faces after someone told me to go F myself. Now we come here, I like Lycosa, but since I've been here he has posted "squeal talk", and "chisel grind!", for what seems like 1000x, which is also fine. He posted a thread on a forum, didn't write it in crayon on his bedroom wall. I offered an opinion and the Doodoo (I'll talk in baby talk as to not offend anyone) hit the fan. You seem to think we're insulting him because we don't like Chisel grinds? Should I have said "Yaaay Chisel grinds!!!!!" or are we not allowed to offer up opinions. You're acting like he invented the chisel grind, or I insulted his children. This is a forum filled with adults, but in recent months, it's not become fun anymore. I understand it's a G rated forum (As should any company who sells knives with skull crushers and metal knuckles), so cursing is not allowed, but now hypersensitive people control everything that is said. Any time there is any discussion where there is a disagreement, it somehow gets locked. Out of all the forums on this board, manufacturer wise, this has somehow become the most sensitive.

I went overboard with my demotivational poster? Are you kidding me? I wasn't saying Cosa wasn't useful, I was comparing the bent fork to a chisel grind. It's like you read everything I say in a parallel universe where it gets twisted in your head. I like to consider myself a good member of blade forums, and I have NEVER had a single issue with any member of staff here besides you, and only in this forum. Honestly, it's juvenile at best, despite it being a "g rated" forum, we're pretty much all adults here, and when a little discussion (and joking) about a grind of a knife starts getting "warnings" from a moderator, everyone needs to step back and rethink things. I love bladeforums, but people representing this company are making me question my like for this subforum.

Step back, this is a knife forum, not a cancer awareness forum, not a Harvard law study group forum, it's supposed to be fun. If you think I was disrespectful to Lycosa, I apologize to him, but the whole singling me out thing because you have your name in red and you don't like me, is a little ridiculous. I know you're probably going to read my post, misinterpret it and put a little red thing next to my name, but honestly, what did I do wrong? I was never personally insulting to Cosa, just half ground knives.

Chisel grinds are trendy garbage that a lot of makers put on their blades now to seem "cutting edge", no pun intended. There are VERY few applications where a chisel grind is favorable.

i.e. 'lycosa, you like trendy garbage'

I understand if it's not supposed to serve any utility purpose, but why neuter it anyway, then become obsessed with a garbage grind because it can "get by"?

It's a weird obsession, its like saying "I only technically need one testicle, so lets get rid of the other one".

a repetition of the same sentiment/statement (+demotivational showing a fork mangled into something unusable as a fork), including two statements that lycosa is obsessed with them - not that he's playfully repeating his posts as an inside forum joke, or as a genuine request wrapped in an inside joke - similarly to the popular death chat threads asking for individual features/knives.

As far as what I think your trying to say, you have clarified with 'my opinion' and 'to me'. As far as how it comes across, the above 3 red bolded statements create a less than kind tone. Both Amy and Jaxx tend to catch such statements and address them asking the posters to chill out, calm down, or a variation of it. I'm not trying to speak for the moderators, these are just the statements that I'd concentrate on if I were trying to bring the tone of a conversation back to neutral/satisfy offended parties.

Personally I don't like the idea of chisel ground knives enough to seek them out, but I have limited use of them during edc tasks. I agree with most of what you've said, but I don't believe busse's designs should be limited by that opinion. I'd love to see him produce a few chisel ground knives as well as asymmetrical grinds, just because I want to see them, not because I consider them better or because i necessarily want to buy them. If it gets Jerry a new demographic to purchase knives and give him money where they otherwise wouldn't, I get to see something new, the busse line gets more diverse, and everyone wins.

As for the first statement and your comments about "chisel grinds are trendy garbage" and telling me it's the same as saying "lycosa you like trendy garbage, that's somewhat reaching. I hate coffee, I think COFFEE IS GARBAGE. Did I just tell all you coffee drinkers that you like garbage and you're all offended? As for saying he's "obsessed", maybe that was a bit presumptuous, but when someone posts over and over his love of chisel grinds, and how busse needs to make a chisel grind, and how everything should be chisel ground, you start to see a trend.

What's funny is, I was planning on going to blade this year, I thought it'd be cool. More and more it's seeming like less fun and more possible drama than anything. THIS COMPANY SELLS KNIVES WITH SKULL CRUSHERS, MEANT TO CRUSH THE PROTECTIVE LAYER OF BONE AROUND YOUR BRAIN, I honestly do not understand why every little thing offends everyone. Like I said, alternate universe.

If you said, in a conversation, "I really like coffee" and the guy next to you said "coffee is garbage", the juxtaposition of the direction you started the conversation in and where it was turned is stark. Certainly it's fair and reasonable to have the opinion that coffee is garbage - I both love coffee and at the same time think it tastes terrible. But when the opinion is inserted right after someones positive comments about it, it's probably going to come off as sounding overly strong/harsh.

The obsession thing is concentrating on the person, it's saying things about lycosa, which is why it may sound negative to others reading it. I don't really care if he actively tries to push a chisel grind agenda on the forum, I get that it's both partly a joke and partly serious.

Those skull crushers are actually glass breakers meant to protect women and infants during car accidents :p I'm trying to straddle both sides of the line where I understand why jaxx and amy want to keep conversation civil both in content and in tone, but I also get what your saying about having so much of a restriction that it becomes hard to talk honestly. I don't know what to tell you about blade other than it's a lot of fun and chances are there will be very little drama. Most things when said in text will get a stronger reaction from misinterpretation then they will when spoken in person - facial expression, body posture, and vocal tone help to modify meaning and clarify what may otherwise sound offensive. If you have a chance to go to blade I'd highly suggest it, just because it's huge and there is a ton of manufacturers there with things you won't see in one place anywhere else.

LVC, I do see what you're saying, but this forum went from a g rated forum, which was well and good and people could have fun to very literally walking on egg shells and having no idea what's going to be acceptable and what's not, depending on someones mood.

I'm someone who is very upfront in person, I will tell you EXACTLY how I feel if it's a valid time to do so. If we were sitting around the table and cosa was on one end saying how Chisel knives are the bee's knees, I would say "Chisel grinds are garbage!" without hesitation and do it with a smile on my face. If he said "kind sir, I am offended", I would simply choose to not talk to him anymore. I act online how I act IRL, and IRL, a little razzing about a knife grind is not something to get worked up about.

I want put my opinion on this particular subject, Chisel grinds:thumbup:

Chisel grinds are used by thousands of people in the food Industry in Japan!
Although knive with chisel grind can mutate on thickness & length....
but, Chisel grind are exclusively used to cut up fish and making sushi.
The last thing...there ain't other grind out there that can do the same job with the same efficiency!!

Don't start acting like it's personal and that I "don't like you". The OP stated:

That's weird! I didn't renew.
I want to say that the rudeness shown on this thread is not HOG-like... at all. Is this how we treat each other, with disrespect?

I tried to place a general warning because I saw what he saw...a rude and disrespectful tone...mainly from your posts. I got called out to explain. I did. It is not a matter of you actually insulting Lycosa directly; that would have earned you an infraction. It is how you could not just post your opinion without that disrespectful tone spread over several posts that you seem to do so well and that is what I don't like.

Now...about my request...and it was a request to you in a PM that you bring up here about the multiple smiley faces and an image...ON THAT THREAD...did I NOT ding the offender??? I did...for insulting you and i edited his post. Then you posted those. It looked as if you were trying to egg him into a fight.

Whether you are aware or not, whether you care or not, you have a way of instigating conflict with your style of posting when it comes to posting opposing views. This I don't like...not the opposing view, but the instigating tone shown here. Take your own advice... Step back.

So again, please don't tell me how I'm singling you out because "I don't like you". As for "squeal talk" & "chisel grind", I direct you to "folder" & "muk". You don't like the repetition? Try another thread.

As for threads, this one is now closed. Thanks a lot. :thumbdn:
