Jerry, Amy, you out there?

Hmm, if the tubes set up was, as you seem to be alluding to, that frail, wouldn't we have seen scads more complaints/postings of failure when other owners "let loose" on theirs???

Any item can "fail" when all the factors are just right, the angle, force of impact, environment (media, support, other surfaces impacted), etc. The physics involved can, unfortunately be just right for something like this to happen.

I for one am not gonna stop beating my Wauseon products.

YMMV

You make my brain hurt

Probably so, but I was in no way using an idiot proof product. Even my patrol machete has had more handle impacts than the FBM I sent in.

Xanax,

Here's a pic of your handle as it was when we received it from you. You can see that the handle is only shifted about 1/32". You can also see the 2 shiny rub marks on the handle slab right above the guard hole where the handle slab was resting as you used it as a splitting wedge. Had you only had the blade portion in the split of the log, and not the handle along with it, this never would have been a problem.

Our handle fasteners are the strongest that we have tested. Stainless tube did not work well as it had to be very thin in order to flare evenly and without splitting. Our nickel tube is 3 times the thickness and is much stronger than the stainless tube that would've worked. Your knife is the only knife that we have received back with this issue that hadn't been thrown. We have only received 2 others back with deflected tube that had been thrown. The Busse Combat warranty had you and the others covered the whole way.

No worries,

Jerry :D

NO bended tubes on this 'old' knife for me....

Splits and shaves... what more could you ask for
:D

Only 1/32"?!?!?!?! I had a seriously messed up handle envisioned. Crap, I wouldn't even have notice a 1/32" shift. :D You're the man Jerry. Xanax, take that mother out and beat it like you did before. I think you will find that your trust and enjoyment will not only return to previous levels, but increase with further use.

Nice pics!! I have been using Busses for about ten years to much more extreme levels than I did on this one. I really think that it was rather a fluke (like thatmguy stated) and given the fact that even if I did repeat the exact impacts again on another FBM that it would hold up. The pic doesn't show the handle shift very well, but it was small. However, I feared it would just get looser and eventually break. Since when I looked down the tube it had noticeably shifted. Maybe it was just a weak tube that got thrown in the mix from wherever Jerry gets the tubes from. I will beat it hardcore again. Just like all of my older SHBM's that never had a problem. Thanks Jerry!

Edited to add: I guess Jerry was showing the shiny impacts rather than the hanlde shift as it was on top. Thanks again Jerry for your awesome products and extreme testing protocol:thumbup:
