I noticed yesterday, that Busse knives have come out with a much different blade. I am thinking that it would do just fine for bushcraft tasks.
4 inch blade of their INFI steel, with a thickness of I believe .145 inch. That is THIN for a Busse blade. The grind is full flat, and you get your choice of no choil, a small choil or a large choil. The one I have coming is like the picture below, with no choil. The blade is not coated, but has a satan finish, and handles of what they call 'black paper'.
Just for grins, I ordered one, and have it en route now. No sheath, as is normal for them. Guess I'll have to pester someone to make one for me.

The "black paper" handles are paper micarta. Nice knife.

i really like that  I had a Mean Street about 15 years ago and it was a great little knife but was way too thick for a lot of stuff at 1/4". Is this one available now?

I'd call if I were you. They may be sold out already. This is a Limited Edition, each blade numbered. I don't think they made many of them.

That looks awesome.

I never have owned a Busse. I would like to some day, maybe I will be about to find one of those, and a Bush Wacker Mistress for trade or something...

Best,
Marion

It's available now to be ordered - probably won't ship for a few months since they just came up. You can order them as long as they are on the site.

They can't be sold out, but will be discontinued in the future - well after they are shipped.

I want one without the choil very much. I usually jump on these things but darn $300 is just alot and I am hoping they come out with an equally thin CG model in the $220 range.

the young lady at Busse told me this morning, that the knife should ship in about 4 weeks, maybe 5.

Wow, that is fast! I was just going by past releases... ;)

At any rate, I'm going to wait until I see pics in hand and get some user reviews before buying one.

It just doesnt look that comfortable to me.....I like the fact that it has no choil, and is thinner....but in my experiance with Busse handles, they just suck for longterm use. All those ridges in the handle look cool, but, they hurt my hands pretty bad. To each his own though....plus I think there is too much ricasso. Bushcraft blades usually have an edge that goes alot closer to the handle....Not that im sayin that it has to have any features to be a "bushcraft" blade, I believe that if you can do bushcraft skills with it, then its a bushcraft knife. Im just goin on good ol Mors's idea of a bushcraft knife, and he coined the term....

It is sharp lookin though. Nicest Busse Ive seen.

Me too. I am holding out for a CG or non-numbered ganzaa CABS. I really prefer machined scales to smooth too. It's one of the unique things about Busses besides INFI.

I've never held a Busse but just from pics, that's kinda what I thought. I think they're smart to address a slightly different market though. The blade shape and finish look pretty decent.

I own several of the thicker stock proto versions, including one with the black paper micarta, and the handle on these are very comfortable. The ridges aren't as 'severe' as that image makes them look. ...and it's nothing that a few minutes with a piece of sandpaper couldn't smooth down to where you like 'em. If you get an opportunity to handle one, I recommend that you check it out. :)

I had a Boss Street Proto and the handle felt great. Those little ridges and bumps go unnoticed when in hand. They do help with keeping a secure grip.
It was almost a perfect belt knife for any task but the thickness at.220 and the choil killed it.

The new LE with three choil options and a thin .145 INFI blade is a keeper for me. The price isn't that much more than buying a custom.
If you like INFI and are on the fence and don't order one, you may regret it after they start showing up with rave reviews from people who spend time in the woods.
You'll certainly get your money back if you dislike it. Possibly even after you have used it. If you have wanted a Busse to use as most blades in W&SS are used for, this is it and it may never show up again.

As far as sheaths go, it wouldn't be hard to find one in leather or kydex. The kydex melters here will have them abundantly available with no need to send the blade off.
For leather, with the shape of the handle and blade, a simple medium sized pouch sheath will hold it. I had Leatherman send me a "production" pouch sheath that fit my proto perfect. It fit a few of my other blades also.

Just as an example for size:
I had a Boss ST and a Fallkniven NL-5 and they layed out equal in length and were very similar in overall profile. Think of the Boss ST LE as a slightly larger F1.

I can confirm this.

Just don't "huff" that micarta dust. It ain't good for ya.:)

My order is in.

Dang it. I just purchased a SAR-3 SE. I love this knife, but a 4" with a thinner blade sure would be nice for woods bumming. Can't see my way clear to buying another expensive knife so close to the first one though.

I also have a NMSFNO that I haven't had a chance to play with. Gotta go find me some woods.

Not nearly all Busses are thick (although really thin ones are rare). And if you count all Bussekin, they've made quite a few good bushcraft knives already. My personal favourite is the Swamp Rap Vex, but Meaners have also been made in thin versions, as have Active Duty's and Game Wardens.

Heh.:) So true.

I have very carefully made certain that I have all the thin ones. You should try out the Cultellus (Culti) and the thin NICK for kitchen chopper duty.

It took 4 years ... but I got 'em!!:D

[Probably right after ResinGuy...]

Shoot me a pm, if you want to try some, I'll lend you a couple for a while.

If you want a custom Infi bushcraft to your specifications, you could always buy a Desert Storm Fighter and cut it/grind it down to whatever you want. Should have enough left over for a small folder too. ;)
