Jerry Halfrich: A New Pattern

Big  on that one Elliott. I agree with KC that its appearance says carry me and use me. It also has a much larger presence to me than the numbers indicate. Very nice.

love that bone as well as the whole knife. sure like the mirror bevels, jerry must have an edge pro. the shape is really unique, sexy if you will.thanks for showing.

WOW! Very, very cool pattern, and very, very cool knife, Elliott! That is a work of Art.

It's nice to see a knifemaker thinking outside the box! The styling of traditional knives endures, because the knives have a certain balance of beauty and function. Jerry has re-arranged some of the classic cues, to come up with a great looking knife!
Many makers have told me they like an honest opinion, because it makes them better, so at the risk of being rude, I will say, I think the joint should be a bit more "sunk" - then the knife would be perfect!

P.S. Great job on the jigging and dying, Enrique!

That's an interesting knife visually. In the closed position it's a contrast between the sharp, angular lines of the blade (particularly on the front with that deep nail nick) and the smooth curves of the handle. In the open position it balances out much more when the curve of the edge is revealed.

The bone looks fantastic, as do the rat tail bolsters.

Another fantastic original twist on the traditional from Jerry Halfrich......a beauty Elliot. :)

Jerry is a brilliant knifemaker........ Thank you for introducing him to me.

Great looking knife! I love the look of that false edge.
In the drawing it looked even more pronounced! Did I say I have a soft spot for Randalls??

Congratulations to Jerry for such an appealing new design. I find it interesting to see that after all those Rounders and Zulus here comes a more slender and pointed design again.
I find it very attractive!

Thanks for showing it to us :)

...If you call it a gents knife Elliott,I'd say it's a Gent's Folding Hunter
Very nice & Congrat's

That's what it would be if I had it - a gent's folding hunter. A knife for everyday carry that's great in the field. Perfect! Just Perfect! It's a great looking knife and just the right size IMO. Great job Jerry!!! Elliott, that's a real prize! - Ed

It may be new but it looks old and very authentic, can't think of a greater compliment:D

It also has elements of Teardop in there....top of the range bone:thumbup:

Wow Elliott, i'm jealous and want to state that knifemakers are welcome to call me up for a consult in the proto stage anytime !
My first thought on looking at the pics is similar to Charlie's. The tang seems a bit too prominent in the closed position, although this would not stop me from jumping on an opportunity to own this pattern. I wonder if a bit of Copperhead 'treatment' to the bolsters would have worked here, or if it would have taken away from the overall flow and balance ?
I wonder if someone with computer graphics skill could alter the pictures to show how it would look ?
And nice to get a sharp "Randall". My 2 Randalls arrived ready to cut butter !
Congratulations on your new knife. I'm looking for my second Halfrich, so Jerry, feel free to call me anytime !!!

I sure like the handle shape/style combined with the blade grind. The color and jigging is very eye appealing too, Enrique. A real beauty. I suppose some might find the sharp edge of the tang catching in the pocket. The overall look of the knife when it is ready for action is just great. I think it is a winner of a pattern. It looks like it could do the work of a sodbuster. Additionally, the fluted bolsters (fluted correct?) look right at home too.

I agree with you, Charlie and discussed this with Jerry for future incarnations of this pattern. I mentioned that he can experiment with the build to have a little less run up, or he can also consider a "copperhead" style bolster. That said, in practical reality it's a non-issue in my hand or pocket but I think it would be a nice aesthetic touch.

There are many roads to Damascus...

It was my pleasure, brother.

Thank you all for the great comments and observations. Jerry called me this morning and mentioned how much it meant to him and I'm sure he'll log on himself at some point and share a few words.

(He's great in the workshop but hell with keyboards. ;))

Here's a couple of new shots I should have taken yesterday but forgot...(these are closer to the actual size of the knife)...
