Jerry Halfrich: A New Pattern

Thats a great looking knife. The shape begs to be picked up and used.I agree it would work well in a larger 4 1/2" to 5" size also.

That's a great pattern and a beautiful knife. It's begging for a larger sibling...:)

You guys are right. I actually had to ask Jerry to scale this one down as every other knife of his I own is over 4" closed...but his druthers are for 4"+ and that's what he intends to make for himself (as if he could ever hold on to one he put in his own pocket. ;))

I agree that the larger version will be a beauty but as I told Jerry on the phone, this one is like a wolf in sheep's clothing (or the pretty-boy that ends up kicking your butt :p).
A knife suitable for town carry but capable of handling hard cutting chores.

I wonder if a bit of Copperhead 'treatment' to the bolsters would have worked here, or if it would have taken away from the overall flow and balance ?
I wonder if someone with computer graphics skill could alter the pictures to show how it would look ?

I took a shot at it. Didn't turn out great, but should give an idea of what it might look like.

Nice work, Jeff.

On the whole I'm not a huge fan of the copperhead bolster (but for specific applications). On this knife (fortunately for me) I still prefer the original bolster style though as I told Jerry, this would certainly be a viable alternative.

Jeff, i have no idea how you did that, but it's really neat that you do. Thanks for showing us this modification. Seems to me that most knifemakers are not computer geeks. I think it could be a real help to take a pattern that a knifemaker wants to build and then show them how it would look with various 'tweakings'.

Even though many like the copperhead bolster for its "sunken" properties in the pocket, I think this mod would be better on a larger hunter version.
The main benefit to me would be the guard/choil security when push cutting on game with slippery hands.

Hey Guys, just wanted to say thanks for all the nice comments. I can't wait until I get my 4 1/2" Scout built. Maybe I can talk Enrique out of another piece of that jigged bone.

Kudo's to all three involved!! I love the frame shape - almost a sow's(belly) leg. (Hope I'm not out of line.)

Glad you like it, Mike. I don't see how you can ever be out of line for sharing your point of view with us. It's always welcome.

I was lucky enough to be at Jerry's shop the day he had finished this knife I held it in my hand trust me when I say it feels as good as it looks. The owner of this knife is very fortunate. I wanted it bad but that's no surprise I have wanted every halfrich knife I have ever held. Tigman

Welcome to the forum, Tigman.

Jerry told me about your comments and observations regarding this knife (and others) and all I can do is say not only do you have great taste (;)) but that I hope you will spend some time enjoying and contributing to our little community here on the forum.

Nice 'un Elliott :)

Jerry says he's hoping to start on my Winchester lock back in February...

Jerry- Great new design. The swedges look nice and aggresive...just gives the blade a razor sharp look.
